De Blasio Calls Out Biden For Waxing Nostalgic About Relationship With Segregationist Southern Senat

WCBS

Mayor Bill de Blasio, when asked about Biden’s comments, read a long and shockingly racist quote from Mississippi’s James Eastland, who died in 1986.

Eastland’s remarks, delivered during the Montgomery bus boycott in the 1950’s, were sprinkled with the N-word and suggested weapons that could be used, in his words, "to abolish the Negro race."

De Blasio declared, “It’s unbelievable to me that someone who wants to be the nominee of the Democratic party for president of the United States would speak nostalgically of his relationship with not only a segregationist, but someone who encouraged violence against black people.”

“I respect Vice President Biden, I respect his public service,” de Blasio continued, “but he needs to apologize and he needs to apologize now. It’s as simple as that.”

I have a slight understanding of math, if your vote increases the count by 1% that makes you over 400,000 people.

"Mr. Eastland in the past decade or so has managed to win - yes - the affection and personal regard of many of those liberals and assorted integrationists who have served on or around the Judiciary Committee. He has, by their accounts, introduced and maintained a high degree of democracy into the committee's proceedings. He has been fair and understanding in his dealings with the members. "He plays hardball with you on the issues," is the way one puts it, "but not tricks." Another liberal admirer elaborates: "He is not like some of those 'high-minded' ones who beat you by calling a vote when you're in the men's room."

That may not sound like much to you, but in Senate terms it means plenty, and it leaves open the question of what will be different, or needs to be different, on the committee under the new leadership of Sen. Kennedy (himself, incidentally, another of Mr. Eastland's personal friends). "

that he even made it into the first debate. He knows he has to play rough to get into the next one.

And the news media will lap it all up.

Much as his run for POTUS is nutty, he's absolutely right on this. The nature of his family makes him entitled to make this comment too (unlike most white people)

If this type of thing is all we hear from him -- criticism without vision -- he's going to have a tough time persuading people to come to his side.

As he is building his brand, he needs to make a case for why people need to vote for him over the field of other great nominees. I don't think he's doing that here.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
