whassup w that?
actually, i know, because that is how it is. southern il is played out coal country, and got fracking a few years ago. everybody who voted for it had very heavy hearts, but the people were demanding the jobs.
my own rep, who was at the forefront marriage equality and the most progressive mj reform in the country hung her head and told me she had voted yes. there was logrolling, of course, but in the end, the people needed jobs, and the country needs energy.
the only other jobs in the area are prisons.
but the boundary waters are a whole different things.
coal country is already a mess. the mississippi watershed is already a mess.
i was active in kelly westlund's campaign against sean duffy, and a similar mine was at issue. she lost, but the project folded shortly thereafter.
it was complicated by tribal rights, tho, so probably not the same. correct me if you know of tribal issues.
and of course there are treaties w canada as well.
i love amy, but i would like to know what she has to say about this.
i am not accepting painter's take.
but would like to know more.

(10,147 posts)he tells her to do? And god forbid letting foreigners invest in the United States. I can't comment on the project Painter is complaining about because I don't know the details.

(12,165 posts)The article at the link is all about Trump renewing mining leases that were set to expire in 2016.
Klobuchar is not even mentioned in the piece.
In that spirit, I'll offer something else: Painter was part of the Bush administration. If you look at his Twitter feed, it's a laundry list of trolling and concern-posting. His role seems to be to sow chaos among democrats. He is not our friend, and he doesn't care about his issue beyond using it as a way to turn opinion against Klobuchar.

(58,785 posts)the "STATEMENT ON DEMOCRATS KILLING TWIN METALS PROJECT" Klobuchar's supposedly upset about in that very unsenatorial letter was released by the Rice County Republicans who say they had it first from the Minnesota GOP.
Googling very unfortunately didn't turn up an investigative journalism piece that would have gone through rigorous editorial scrutiny, just a questionable WSJ opinion piece, "A Democrat Deflates a Trump 'Scandal' - WSJ." I don't have access to that, but of course their opinion section is notorious for very dirty politics and disseminating lies.
The scandal here involves Twin Metals Minnesota, which holds two mineral leases on government land outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the northeastern part of the state. The Interior Department had renewed the leases continuously for...
