🐦 Bernie Sanders attending the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner (April 30)

The VIPs attending the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner
By Sarah Polus April 27

In an interesting role-reversal, Donald Trump declined his invitation to the glitzy event while Bernie Sanders has decided to take a night off the campaign trail to dine with Washington’s elite (wait, we thought he doesn’t even own a tux?)

Sanders will be joining the requisite Kardashian (well, a Jenner, anyway), the stars of Comedy Central’s cult hit “Broad City,” and even an aristocrat: Lady Mary Crawley (er, that would be “Downton Abbey” actress Michelle Dockery) at the April 30 dinner. The correspondents’ dinner — an intimate affair for a few thousand black-tie-clad pols, celebrities, and journalists — often makes for strange table-mates.

It’s not every day that Lindsay Lohan dines alongside the nation’s commander-in-chief, but at Washington’s most anticipated social event of the year, hey, anything can happen.

When does it start and when does it end?

This is C-SPAN’s big night, and the channel kicks off coverage at 6 p.m. with red carpet arrivals. The action dies down with dinner around 7:30 p.m. The schedule says President Obama and Wilmore will start their speeches at 9:45 p.m… however, for the last two years, they haven’t taken the stage until closer to 10:15 p.m. Expect everything to wrap up at approximately 11 p.m.

Besides C-SPAN, where else can I watch?

You can livestream it on the C-SPAN website, on MSNBC starting at 7:30 p.m., and on washingtonpost.com when President Obama begins his speech.

On TV, CNN starts coverage at 7 p.m.; Fox News at 8 p.m.; and MSNBC at 9 p.m.

shine. He's spending an evening with all the schmucks who ignored him for the last 12 months. When he's president, they should all be blackballed from all his White House press conferences. Online news channels ONLY allowed.

He's a better person than I could ever be.

I rarely watch corrupt corporate owned MSM. My teevee stays tuned to YouTube all day and I just watch all my favorite YouTube channels all day long or catch a Netflix or Amazon movie.

It's such a relief from all the corrupt corporate owned PROPAGANDA MSM.

I thinK, when Bernie is prez, his correspondents dinner should exclude ALL the corrupt corporate owned MSM talking heads who have treated him with complete disrespect and have ONLY online news show hosts. Wouldn't that be incredible?

John would surely wear his blue cardigan. 50/50 on the Levi's shirt. Old media is dying and will soon be gone.

It’s all for a good cause.

To the critics who grouse that the dinner has become too bloated, celebrity-obsessed and overhyped, the correspondents’ association has had a standard response: Hey, all that hype is selling tickets, and all those tickets are funding scholarships!

But charity galas are rarely the most efficient form of fundraising, and this one is no exception. The dinner was founded as a strictly social affair; only since 1991 have proceeds underwritten scholarships for journalism students a total of $86,550 last year
