Are Bernie's supporters are all talk and no action?

Last edited Thu Mar 17, 2016, 11:23 PM - Edit history (4)

Did I get your attention NOW?

Other than voting, donating to Bernie, and talking to people you know about Bernie's policy positions and history, THE SINGLE GREATEST THING you can do to help his campaign is to WRITE A HARD COPY LETTER to the media protesting their Bernie Blackout and wall to wall Trump coverage! I know people who work in newsrooms, and I am told that one hard copy letter has the weight of 100 emails to a news director. This is, they have added, a huge reason why the media skews to the Right; right wingers mail in letters frequently, the Left never does, so the perception is that only the right wing is dissatisfied with their "reporting". Let us change that notion TODAY!

Please borrow time from posting here and on Facebook TODAY to write letters to FIVE of the organizations listed below. When finished, post the text of your letter and who you contacted to this thread.

as a next step if they refuse to end the Bernie blackout and 24/7 Trump "infomercial". This worked for the "Flush Rush" campaign to such an extent that he has been dropped from many stations. You aren't powerless unless you chose to be!

apparently Trump and Fox have the only approach that works; say something controversial and people *might* care enough to take notice. We are a disappointing species.

Please critique me and let me know if you think it's too weak, grammar, too rude, whatever!! lol..
I used NBC but I can change that to any of the others.

To whom it may concern,

I am deeply concerned that your news outlet seems to have either some sort of news blackout or blatant negative campaign against the Presidential candidate for the Democratic party, Bernie Sanders. For instance, on Tuesday March 14th, after Senator Sanders had had a not-so-good day in the primaries, your organization didn’t bother to cover his concession speech at the end of the evening. May I ask why that is? Does NBC not consider the Senator to be a valid candidate for the Presidency or, if I may be so bold, is it that he may not be as intriguing and frankly headline grabbing as the Republican front runner, Donald Trump? Whether the coverage is "good news" for Bernie or "bad news" (like losing 4 states in a primary), I do feel that objective reporting on his candidacy and the events surrounding his candidacy should be reported upon.

I would ask that you consider your coverage of the Senator. This primary season is not even halfway through yet and he could conceivably catch up to Hillary Clinton in the delegate arena. He has won nine states, so far, and there are 27 yet to go. Wouldn’t NBC then feel a bit derelict for not covering the potential future President of the United States in his bid for election? He has a large contingency of supporters all over this country and actually the world. We are Democrats, many, MANY independents and even some Republicans who respect his consistency and honesty.

I feel that if you do decide to give more coverage to Bernie Sanders, one of the three leaders in the bid for the Presidency, that you would be doing a service for the voters and also for your reputation in the area of journalistic integrity.

Thank you for listening,
Sincerely,
Dana Born

but you might call them out a bit more on their constant fawning over Trump and incessant use of "The presumed nominee" when talking about Clinton (which they have done from day one). Trump got where he is with their help -especially in the case of CNN, MSNBC and NPR- and Bernie would likely be the "presumptive nominee" right now if his truly remarkable campaign had gotten half the coverage that the reality TV star's has. One could say that there's so much obvious bias as to make any viewer uncomfortable with their reporting in general from here on out. Can they be a serious news source if they devote such an excessive amount of time to a seemingly less than serious candidate like Trump, while ignoring the incredible grassroots movement that Bernie Sanders has inspired? Hasn't Bernie earned far more votes than Trump in many States?

Okay - a little more tweaking and then I'll be back later this evening.

I would point out that their bias has become glaringly obvious. Media matters found that in a single day one cable news outlet gave Trump 84 minutes (that could easily be construed as a fawning infomercial) and Bernie only one minute of coverage which was mostly dismissive. Now they've cut coverage of Sanders completely, even ignoring Bernie's concession speech on March 15th in favor of airing a half hour of Trump's empty podium. Every station did this, so there was obvious collusion within the media that has NOT gone unnoticed! Let them know that if they refuse to be balanced and fair in their coverage, we will do to them what we did to hate radio; we will target every sponsor they have: http://deadstate.org/thanks-to-a-national-boycott-hate-radio-is-facing-a-20-million-bankruptcy/

Trump is not a serious candidate, and would not be winning anything without the hundreds of millions of dollars in free air time that the media has given him. Personally I believe that Trump isn't in it to win it; he's in it to frighten reluctant voters into voting for his "dear close personal friend" Hillary. He will only increase his insane rhetoric as the election draws closer, and giving him a bullhorn 24/7 with which to air his unhinged rantings is irresponsible and unethicial. It is driving trust in the forth estate to an all time low. Bernie is the serious outsider who has built a lasting grassroots movement that could transform America in ways that would benefit every American citizen. He's breaking records with individual donations and rally turnouts, and he deserves equal time without negative spin!

It takes fewer people to have an impact at the local level. I think emails are effective at smallish local newspapers.

And if you are a writer, you can be the media: i.e, writing a Letter to the Editor or an op-ed. I'm planning on writing an op-ed to run on Earth Day, a few days ahead of our primary, explaining why Bernie is the candidate for people who care about climate change.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am appalled by your coverage of the presidential primaries. You've given nearly wall-to-wall coverage of that buffoon, Donald Drumpf, because his antics bring high ratings. What about the American people who will suffer as a result of your slanted reporting? Any sane person knows a Drumpf presidency would be disastrous.

In the meantime, you've completely ignored Bernie Sanders, who has pulled off a near miracle by appealing to normal, everyday people to fund and run his campaign. Despite eschewing billionaires and Super PACs, despite your failure to give him adequate and unbiased coverage, he is exceeding expectations. Had he received fair coverage, he would be winning--and wouldn't THAT be a story to pump up ratings? Everyone loves an underdog story.

If you don't start giving the Sanders campaign the coverage and fair reporting it deserves, I will be contacting your sponsors and boycotting their products. Shame on you for your biased reporting!

Sincerely,

XXXXXXX
