Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumListen up Bernie Supporters, get a grip!
Ugh, I can't believe I'm saying this to the most optimistic and enthusiastic group of supporters that any campaign has ever seen but...
YOU'VE GOT TO CALM DOWN AND COME BACK TO REALITY. I LOVE YOU, but please, sit down for a moment and stop with the pessimism, it's contagious and it's hurtful to our campaign.
Remember what we've been saying for WEEKS? This is Hillary's LAST GOOD DAY.
But then we won Michigan, and honestly, I think we let it get to our heads. We got overconfident and we invested a lot of emotion into tonight.
Originally, Bernie was not supposed to do well this day anyways.
It is AFTER THIS DAY, that Bernie is going to excel. We've known this, we have the data to prove it. All we had for tonight was the positive high of pulling off Michigan's upset.
So for the love of Bernie, PULL IT TOGETHER. This was expected for weeks. Don't let Michigan's win distort your reality.
We're still climbing and she's still falling. That reality hasn't changed. Stay the course.
Now snap out of it. We're fine.
ETA: And you know what? We were optimistic about winning EVEN WHEN WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO LOSE MICHIGAN AND TODAY. So why the fuck is anyone upset that we ACTUALLY won Michigan and might not lose everything today? GAH.

B) Make some DIY baileys, enjoy a drink, and carry on.

But guys, consider this. YOu are not supposed to worry about day to day changes on a 401K...You sign up for a 401K for the long haul and don't let interim lows depress you. It always comes back up.
So here we are doing the same thing with Benrie's campaign...intstead of going for the long haul (knowing the longer we stay in the more votes he gets in western and northern states)...no we panic every time there is a loss.
WELL...STOP IT.
Keep the faith. He has faith in us and we need to have faith in him.
He's not a quitter. Never has been. I've never known a fighter like him. And we have to be fighters too.
So go pin your Bernie button on your shirt, put a smile on your face, and go out and greet a few new people and convince them that the Bern is in their favor.

(4,120 posts)I'm feeling pretty sick to my stomach about this and it's hard to read the gloating from the Clinton supporters on this board. That being said, your pep talk helped a great deal. It's just depressing to see that these ignorant Americans vote against everybody's - or should I say the average citizens' - best interests.
retrowire
(10,345 posts)This is my first election and I'm learning fast the realities of how easily guided people are to vote against their best interests. I'm seeing how intentionally difficult the system makes it for people to become informed.
Politics isn't inviting enough. It's become so exclusive that it leads to people not informing themselves enough or not wanting to be involved at all.
Ignore their gloating. They'll relish in the moment, but they won't win. And even if Bernie loses.... I'm still here, and I still have the same drive and inspiration he gave me. And I'M not going away. YOU aren't going away.
We are all apart of a movement that has been started by Bernie. And whether or not it ends with Bernie, doesn't matter. It's still going to keep moving. We won't be shutting down like Occupy did. We won't be ignored any longer. We've looked into the system and have seen how deliberately it opposes us. We've seen the tricks it pulls and it doesn't even try to hide that.
We're not going anywhere.
noamnety
(20,234 posts)so much as regrouped. The younger folks are overwhelmingly for Bernie - anti-wallstreet, which tells me they are still working to depose Wall Street, just in different ways.
I'm thinking it's always the youth that are more liberal - and I don't mean that as they age they get more conservative, though that may happen a little. I mean instead that each new generation gets ideas in their head that are more to the left than their elders had at that same age. So for example we have young people in higher numbers than retirees viewing gay marriage as a norm - and pushing older people to embrace it.
I think Occupy got a whole generation talking and thinking about corporate control of our resources in a way I never seriously did when I was that same age.
What I'm getting at is long term, I'd rather have the millennials carrying us than be with the group that's supported mainly by the 50+ year olds. This isn't ageism, I'm in my 50's - it's just that win or lose this battle, I'm optimistic that our odds of getting a president who represents real people are going up, not down.

(8,175 posts)What this means is simple:
Hillary Clinton will grow her lead until the March 15 states have voted.
Bernie Sanders will erase that lead partly or completely after March 15.
How much of Clinton's lead he will erase depends on your not buying what the media
is selling that the contest is over.
In most scenarios where Sanders wins, he doesn't retake the lead until June 7, when five
states including California cast their ballots.

I still believe he will win this. just hate that Ohio got called with less than 15% in. I hate that Americans vote with no friggin clue about their own interests. (5,400 posts)P.S. Stephen Furst, who played Flounder, went on to get a big role in Babylon 5, a JMS production. As I've posted before, JMS is supportive of Senator Sanders. https://twitter.com/straczynski/status/674833837185040385
But I'm reminded of the inspiring tale he had to tell, of a stranger who reached out to him to save his life.
Furst publicly credits J. Michael Straczynski's show "Babylon-5" with saving his life, because he is a longtime diabetic whose kidneys failed midway through the show. A fan who loved his portrayal of 'Vir' heard of his health problems and donated a kidney to save him from dialysis and a likely early demise.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0299122/bio
Like Bluto, I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I'm willing to say I'm not giving up on the Sanders campaign. We didn't give up "when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor", and as Stephen Furst's story shows, we live in a world with amazing people who will step to a noble purpose.
"... Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope. The death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation ..."

(14 posts)This is my first and maybe only post, although I've been reading this site for years. Listen, look at the big picture. If you think that the money people and the movers and shakers are not concerned about what they've seen Bernie accomplish, you are greatly deceived. We are out here and in significant numbers and we will remain out here. The planet is in trouble, our system is in trouble, and we want to do it with a vote and not a gun. Cheer up. We are firing a shot across the bow of the corporatist's ship. We may not see the results in our lifetime but the groundwork is being laid for your kids and their kids. Look at the Bull Moose party! Despite dividing the GOP and allowing Wilson to win, every tenet of the Bull Moose party became law within 25 years; women's right to vote, abolishment of child labor, labors right to organize, and establishment of a social security system. I'm 63. I don't think I'll live to see the changes we need, but you can't give up on the hope of wanting it, wishing for it. And lets hope we get a chance to do it at the ballot box, as opposed to an environmental disaster that will force it. Cheers everybody. I want Bernie. But I'll vote for Hillary and she will destroy the Donald.

Everything now depends on what Bernie's supporters do.
Don't accept the fact that's over - because it isn't, you never know what will happen in this race.
You must follow your head and your heart, don't settle for less.
You must vote your conscious.
My generation got us out of Vietnam because we didn't give in to the establishment.
I'm 70 years old and have lived through watching the Clintons rise to where they are today.
