Quick question - updated

Last edited Thu Feb 11, 2016, 03:21 PM - Edit history (1)

Has the ACLU officially come out in support of Hillary? I'm in Nevada and just had a young man come by, dressed in an ACLU T-shirt, saying he is from the ACLU in support of Hillary. He asked for my roommate who is/was a member of the ACLU, so definitely has membership info.

Update: I got in touch with my friend who is a local board member and she emphatically said no, that the ACLU is not, and never has, endorsed a candidate. She said she would talk to a couple of board members about whether they should put out a notice to that effect since this guy using the organization's name.

I don't think the ACLU ever endorses. Even if they did, I sincerely doubt they'd endorse Hillary. smokey nj Feb 2016 #9

and that he was supporting the "best candidate for the working people". I said if that was Bernie we were good, he stammered for a minute and said no, Hillary.

The fact that he asked for my roommate by name and was consulting information on a clipboard makes me think he had access to ACLU membership records.

He may have finessed the wording and not directly said that the ACLU was supporting Hillary, but his shirt plus his identifying as a member of the ACLU plus his membership access definitely gave the impression that the ACLU was endorsing Clinton.

I can call a friend who's on the board of the local ACLU but she's a Hillary supporter *sigh*

Wonder if Reddit has picked up on this?

Doing a little googling can find that the ACLU and Hillary have butted heads before about the No-Fly list that the ACLU criticized as "dystopian".

Also, the ACLU gave Hillary a rating of only 60% in 2002 because of her mixed civil rights voting record....

But then again, we've already seen endorsements for Hillary that make the head spin.

Sometimes I forget that we're all Democrats and that at heart we agree on most stuff - well, except for the trolls.

As my friend said, the ACLU is very careful not to endorse, or give the impression of endorsing a candidate.

Her record on civil liberties is atrocious.
