The Roosevelt Party - Branding and the Details

The records of FDR, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Teddy Roosevelt taken together cover many of the ideals liberals hold dear. While those ideals were limited by the era they lived in, the name Roosevelt can help us lead the Democratic Party back to the left through educating our fellow Americans how socialism is one of the things that makes America great. Liberals should be known as Roosevelt Democrats, as should politicians who have records in line with liberal ideals.

What we need to do is make a clear platform of what liberalism offers to Americans, both in the present and in the future, so Roosevelt Democrats can be identified and ranked. On that subject, I recently found this site, which ranks members of Congress as liberal or conservative:

Once we come up with a framework of what we want the Democratic Party to look like then we can decide how to get it done.

1. I really like the idea of calling liberals Roosevelt Democrats.

I think it will resonate with voters.

I do wonder about the site you linked to, though. Not a single senate Republican ranked as "extremely conservative"? I mean, what exactly does one have to do to be considered that? At least the house has quite a few of them. I take it to mean "extremely conservative" only refers to the extreme of the extremes?

If so, proud to have both my senators in the strong liberal category. Wyden and Merkley have been great.

past time to start letting people know what the Dem Party can be, how it can and did become the Party of the People rather than continuing down the Corporate path that clearly is not resonating with voters.

We need to get people to see that the reason that this is such a "great country" is only because of liberal policies spearheaded by the Roosevelt Administration and others.

We have to keep pushing back against the constant propaganda of the right wing and corporatist Democrats. The title "liberal" needs to become something to be proud of again. I also think that changing the way people view the word "socialism" will be key. The people support us, but they don't realize it, and that's what we most need to change. If we make it so that the right can't use those words for their narrative, they lose the power and we gain it.

I know the Right, or the extremists on the Right, attack Liberals. But it is not just the Right anymore, the Third Way hate and despise FDR and Liberals as much as, if not more than, the Right. And they part of our party now. So THEY need to be fought against even more than the Right imo.

100% agree--we can't fight the right until we aren't the right. We have to be liberals, not right-wing Democrats, if we are going to have any chance in 2016 or of pulling our party back to supporting the people and not the corporations.

21. Yes, exactly. We were kind of stunned for a while by the Bush/Cheney gang so were willing to

be persuaded that the 'lesser evil', or 'anyone but Bush' was better even though we were uneasy about it. But those days are gone. We've seen the result of those tactics and now people are energized again, on the Left I mean, to reestablish themselves in the Party and hopefully to take it back from Corporate infiltrators.

When people look at issues the majority come down on the liberal side. We need to revive FDR's second bill of rights and hammer the public with it.

Bringing Eleanor's and Teddy's philosophies and ideas into the mix gives the Roosevelt Democrat moniker so much more depth!

FDR might be a better choice, as it is a nickname and thus not so proprietary.

The Roosevelt (or FDR) party, should use the word Employees, instead of Labor or Workers or Proletarians. No one relates to those old terms. We're an Employee Nation, & we want FDR's social safety net strengthened & improved.

I picture a new Roosevelt Caucus, mascot is a blue eagle on a white background w/ a green trim, clutching three red roses--two in the left claw (represents FDR and Eleanor), one in the right (represents Teddy).
