i respect blacks voice, here the last couple days.

i have not been on du much at all the last, while. i have not been participating much more than reading a title. seeing the stupid of bundy. oh...... yesterday. a jury, i sat on a jury that had my first racist bullshit.... for quite a while. hide that fucker, lol. (this is not a call out. no one knows who. totally vague). but, a point.

personally, having experienced this... with our issue, in this group, i want to say, loud and clear, precisely. i hear ya. support you. say yeehaw, cause this gives clear evidence of black experience. what is often discussed on du with white privilege. this is it. and so much more. i mean, so.... much more bringing in the ugly of slavery. and what? minimizing. mini FUCKIN' mizing,..... SLAVERY. really? fuck.

any questions?

does anyone on du have any questions how clear this is. a snapshot. that points the dots so clearly, that NO moron could miss bigotry.

what happened from the time bundy stood up to govt, brought in arms, pointed weapons at employees (no arrests), decried the u.s. and became fan boy for fox, in all his unpatriotic. to... today.

i walked into a thread yesterday, written by a man that i respect so. that i have gotten to know his voice, and always raise fist with.

then, not knowing wtf was up, .... i was seeing women, that i often raise my fists with.... in this thread.

together we stand.

just know. i am right there with you in voice. looking in the eye, without a blink.... but a know. i stand with you.

ah. this is so significant. the person so interesting. i never understood. i never understood much of what that person said. lol. i tried. i have asked a number of people. they act like they understand. and they give me an answer. that is suppose to impart understanding. and even in the explanation. i am left without understanding.

so every time i hear that, i get a smile.

and fits perfect for that thread.

i just jumped in and enjoyed the feel of the people. did some high fives. and walked back out, feeling good. empowered.

in that thread. every person applauding maher, that i recognize, is white hetro male. can you believe???? so surprised. yet, this totally goes right by this group of white hetro men applauding maher cause they cannot call a woman the b word... or any of the other many offensive slurs.... to groups.

I have been following the thread and just posted there. The OP was masterful in subtly, and with class, presenting the opportunity for a great learning experience. The thread seems to have very effectively exposed the less than flattering character of some posters who, rather than listening and learning, chose to spew defensive knee jerk responses.

I don't get those assholes, but I will say this, I've had Facebook for a few months now and have had to block 2 people for racism, made one general announcement that I don't tolerated it, I'm about to make another. My husband won't tolerate it. Period.

The thing is this, and here white privilege plays a part--we thought we knew these people, we assumed they weren't racist, or at least tried not to be, and then you see some foul crap on FB, then see the person in real life and confront them and hear "we've always talked like this" (my husband has a 30 year friendship--gone. They had never truly discussed race-- the guy's half Native American, so my husband assumed there wasn't racism)

Really? Not in front of me you haven't. These are mostly middle aged white men, but I'm looking with a jaundiced eye toward anyone who posts weird anti-Obama stuff, young or old. I'm not asking everybody to love the man, but he and his wife and family deserve respectful acknowledgment and respectful disagreement- if that's how you swing-- in my world.

As far as the covert racists around here and deniers of white privilege, they don't even make sense to me. I can't explain them or understand them. I just know if there are enemies to defeat, it's essence lies in whatever makes people think that way.

The position of this site is very clear, and was made clearer in response to that thread.

But still, the thread was fun.

also exists on the socialist/communist forums. It is the one argument I have with them repeatedly and I'm not backing down.

They feel that economics trumps all else and changing the economic system has to be the primary focus. This comes directly from Marx (white male circa 1800s).

But they are white males and even if they've lived in poverty they have not walked in our shoes - they really don't know the experience of being a poor black women growing up in these states. It is not the same experience for all of us in poverty. There are so many small ways in which discrimination occurs and makes the experience of growing up in capitalism even worse for minorities. As a white female with a white-sounding name I could at least get in the door for interviews etc. despite my poor, rural white background while "Lakisha" might not even get that far.

We have to keep working on ALL of it. We don't just focus on economics and ignore all the other slurs or we backtrack in that area as well.

This is an important OP, sea. Thanks for keeping your eye on the ball.

35. The question I ask
Mon Apr 28, 2014, 09:02 AM
Apr 2014

Is, if classism were eradicated, would racism automatically be? I would argue in no way would this happen.

Conversely, if know if racism were eradicated, it wouldn't eradicate classism, but it would put a huge dent in it, as well as provide a sense of solidarity amount people, forging a pathway for true economic equity.

But as you say, the only way is to continue to work on all of it.
