In an interview Monday night on MSNBC, Melissa Harris-Perry spoke with Senator Bernie Sanders about his appeal to millennials of color. Hip hop is, like, completely down with you. You appear on WorldStarHipHop more often than the Kardashians, she joked, causing an giddy, knowing smile to fill Sanderss face. What do you think is so interesting about you for the hip hop generation?
Does Bernie Sanders have any idea what WorldStarHipHop is? Maybe. Maybe not. But he had an answer for her question that required him to say Kardashians more than once, which is a nice treat.

(46,179 posts)I love the way, every time some interviewer tries to get him to go after Democrats, he expresses respect and re-focuses on issues, not personalities.
Every time. It has to have become automatic by now, since American media and political talk is so obsessive about personality, and the national propaganda has done such a thorough job of relegating all issues but the hot-button triggers to a dusty broom closet. Re-directing the national conversation is EXACTLY what this country needs. Focusing on issues and the needs of the people...EXACTLY what we need.

(2,125 posts)not a sound-bite interview at all. Bernie answers questions thoughtfully without trashing anybody, just laying out the facts. He explains the economic disparities that have led to the US being a jailer nation of mostly minorities. MHP credits Bernie with being instrumental in raising the awareness of the BLM movement, long before Hillary jumped on that bandwagon.
