{snip}
2) The connection between Sanders' presidential campaign and the 2011 Occupy Wall Street movement is much stronger than the average voter realizes. This fall, I spent some time in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, a short drive from where Sanders grew up, with the organizers of People for Bernie, perhaps that most prominent of a string of grassroots organizations that's driven hundreds of thousands of people to the candidate's packed rallies and to make so many small donations. Many were veterans of the occupation of New York's Zuccotti Park four years ago -- determined to effect real change out of the Occupy movement that made The 99 Percent a household word and which seemed to fade too early.

(57,936 posts)And as the author points out, in the most important sense, Bernie has already won this primary. He has forced Hillary to talk at least superficially about the economic issues that really trouble this country. That's not Hillary's area of expertise and certainly not the area that her wealthy donors want her to focus on. In a sense, therefore, in the important sense, Bernie has already won the primary campaign. America is completely changed by Bernie's questions and Bernie's answers.
My point is especially well supported by the fact that so many young students are enthusiastically embracing Bernie's points of view.
No matter who officially wins the primary vote, Bernie is the candidate who is making the lasting impression on America. He is very effective at it.
There is just nothing new or exciting about Hillary. Her time, Bill Clinton's time is past. Even if Hillary wins the presidency, she will bring the past into the White House. We need to move on. This is not the world of the 1990s.
Bernie is offering new answers, new opportunities. He is the candidate of the 21st century. The Clintons are candidates from the past.
I just hope that the void the Clintons would bring to the 2016 election will not be filled with Republican cynicism and bluster. Trump's popularity among Republican voters suggests that could happen. How sad that would be. The future lost. Clinton represents to me the spector of a lost future.

(11,014 posts)in bringing issues to the debate that would otherwise had not been a part of the discussion.
Other than the above, he is not presidential material. His solutions are simplistic and unattainable.
There may not be anything exciting about Hillary but she is a workhorse that gets things done. Inducing excitement is neither a requirement nor sufficient to "get the job done." If that were true, rock stars would have become presidents.
Nevertheless, my original point stands and that is B grade authors whose books have not previously sold are cashing in because Bernie supporters would buy anything at the moment to prop their mood up from the depressing poll numbers.
Same goes of low-tier rappers that even the rap world has barely heard of. If it sells a few records, more power to them.

(57,936 posts)That video, I realized this morning, tells us exactly what is wrong with Hillary and why she should not be in the White House.
She wipes off her shoulder in a motion that is intended to suggest that she is unphased by the Republican members of Congress' hour-long interrogation of her.
But her face, the expression on her face, betrays her tension, her impatience and her anger. She is trying to give the impression that she is relaxed. Her face and the stiffness of her body tell us just how angry she is, how impatient, how disgusted, how unhappy she is.
Obama would truly relax, let the venom pass over him and be on with his work.
Hillary is vindictive and it leads to arrogance.
She has no business in the White House. Her ego, her pride are just too great.
That videos says it all.
Bernie gets angry about the injustice in the world.
Hillary gets angry about things that affect her personally.
That's why I support Bernie.
Your signature line explains why Hillary should not be president.
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)It is just a signature line -- not Hillary's campaign bio for heaven's sake.
Hillary has every right to be angry about the Bengazi/email stupidity of republicans.
It is better to have legitimate anger than storming out of a press conference because one didn't like the question. (Or storming out during a BLM protest)
Anything else I may sincerely post here will get my post hidden so I better stop at that.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)That's the point.
She would be viewed as more trustworthy if she simply sincerely expressed her real and justified feelings than when she pretends to be cool and wipes offer shoulder as if to suggest she is emotionally not touched by the situation.
That conflict between what one part of her claims she feels -- the brushing off of her shoulder and how she really feels -- the anger expressed in the rest of her body -- is what makes her appear dishonest.
She is not one in her feelings and the expression of her feelings. She is too focused on trying to seem strong and invincible. She is not herself.
That insincerity, that lack of unity between what she feels and her expression is her problem.
That makes her seem untrustworthy. That is why her negatives are high. And that is why, although she has clearly worked on her voice since 2008, her voice does not sound natural either. This is a real problem for her.

(3,544 posts)We have NEVER had a candidate like Bernie. I support 100% of all of his ideas.
What sticks out the most for me is he has 0 dollars from any corporation in his back pocket. That's a big deal for me. He is indebted to us.
If we keep putting corrupt politicians in office, we can expect a continued decline in this country.
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)The problem is, swallowing all his ideas without looking at the hard facts makes you an idol worshipper. The "Bernie can never be wrong" mentality which is what is sinking his campaign.

(15,429 posts)Yes, I risked the hide to express that. I know a pro-Sanders jury will hide this in a New York Minute, but the truth is the truth.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)There are plenty of passionate criticisms of both candidates here. The people who get hides are usually the people who take it too far and end up upsetting people by attacking them personally. If you dont believe that then maybe ask yourself why some people collect hides repeatedly while others don't despite also criticizing the candidates.
I think in the heat of the contest some of you have forgotten that this isnt a war, and the people you treat like the enemy are actually very close politically to you. Treat them with respect and you'll usually get the same back.
