I first saw him on CSpan in the mid 2000s when he would do short morning bits from Politico.
I liked him, he seems to be a progressive, and seemed to light up a bit when the news was good for Ds.
Once he broke in at MSNBC in his niche as a poll analysist, I saw a VERY clear turn him.
IMO, all corporate media are given a clear directive - always mitigate the good news for Ds and excuse R BS whenever possible.
I think when he got pulled into MSNBC, he got sat down by someone and told the rules, and in order to advance his career he got in line.
Saw the same thing with Russert's son.
He had his first gig, everyone was all breathless because of his father passing, during the Obama/McCain campaign. He was the SPECIAL COLLEGE CORESPONDENT and did a bit on the college vote. The simple truth was it was good news for BO and not great for McCain. He simply said the reality of it. They had him on the next morning, and he had a completely different tone and mannerism, and it was all about how McCain was doing good with the college vote.
The most obvious example of how the media is told to operate, and he has been on that track since - mitigate the Ds/excuse the Rs.
What is bizarre, is that even with a someone like Todd, who I think was really a progressive, once they get the big paycheck and make it into the elite media, they somehow find GLEE in selling out like they do. I mean, they really seem to get off on excusing the Rs and negatively framing the Ds.
