Clinton, Sanders Wall St. exchange is top Facebook moment from Democratic debate

The top moment on Facebook from the Democratic debate Saturday night in Iowa was an exchange between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton about Wall Street and campaign finance, according to data provided by the social media platform.

"I'm not asking Wall Street or the billionaires for money. I will break up these banks, support community banks and credit unions. That's the future of banking in America," Sanders said during one segment.

Clinton shot back at Sanders, arguing that he "basically used his answer to impugn my integrity."

"You know, not only do I have hundreds of thousands of donors, most of them small, and I am very proud that for the first time the majority of my donors are women, 60 percent. I represented New York and I represented New York on 9/11 when we were attacked, where we were attacked. We were attacked in downtown Manhattan where Wall Street is. I did spend a whole lot of time and effort helping them rebuild," Clinton said.

Terrorism and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) topped Facebook's list of most discussed issues at the debate. Climate change, Wall Street, Iraq and the minimum wage were also hot topics.

At this point maybe she should just apologize for invoking 9-11 to defend her contributions Cheese Sandwich Nov 2015 #8
Please post more. You made more sense in a few small phrases than most of what I read in DU Bread and Circus Nov 2015 #7

Clinton really blew it on this one.

Her response to her Wall Street dalliances and her truckload of Wall Street campaign funds--was to invoke 9/11?

She said that she helped Wall Street "rebuild" after 9/11. That isn't the issue. And she knows it. Her response was so off kilter and so poorly executed.

I bet this gets a lot of play in the media, which only draws attention to the fact that she is in bed with these big banks--and has no cogent explanation for these heinous actions.

This will resonate with voters.

I bet they downplay it and try to point out some minor misstatements by Bernie instead.

Hillary seems to be protected by the major media outlets, who were caught flat footed when Obama started wining in 2008.

Its the old "better the devil we know than one we've never seen before" in play here.

I agree that it would really resonate with voters, but first they have to be told about it, and told why its important.

Claim of victimisation; Disingenuous conflation of donor head count and size of contribution; Pandering appeal to gender; Specious appeal to 911!...and no answer to the question that was originally asked. All in about 40 seconds.

Wall Street being attacked on 9/11.

I remember the World Trade Centers falling, but that fucking bull and stock exchange are still there with no need for a rebuild.
