After the deadliest attack on France since World War II stunned the country and the world late last night, CBS News executives made major changes to the emphasis of tonight's second Democratic debate.
CBS News executive editor Steve Capus told The New York Times the team immediately started making moves to shift the debate's focus when news of the attacks broke during a Friday night rehearsal. The event will now focus more on issues of national security, terrorism, and foreign relations, with questions that will address the Paris attacks.
Capus told the Times the network had planned questions for a different debate, but said "there is no question that the emphasis changed dramatically" after the attacks.
Capus also said it was important for the event to go on, saying "American leadership is put to the test" during international crises.

(14,614 posts)He's not going to want to strike out before he knows who did what, and he'll likely advocate a measured approach to the situation. At this the media will scream because they are corporate owned and Wall Street as well as the MIC profits from war.
Clinton will be Clinton and much more hawkish, and the media will purr. Pundits will look smug and say what they think are clever things that show how smart and well informed they are.
We'll see what the American people actually want. Remember that the 80 million Millennials who aren't really showing up in the polls at the rate they will probably vote are the first generation whose parents have not cared enough about to try and ensure they will have better lives their parents did. In the eyes of a Millennial, the government lied to get us into the war and they have friends that never came back or came back different. The government and banks are exploiting them with huge student debt loads.
I am confident though, that the merchants of death, the MIC have done everything they can possibly do at this point to derail Sanders' campaign. The bottom line is it is up to us to say yes or no to war. We have already spent trillions of dollars on our nice little forever war, tens of thousands of our children and grandchildren have paid with their limbs and minds and even lives. But the American people have been getting tired of war.
So we will see.
Shh. The debate is starting. The media head is ponderous indeed, fearmongering...the moment of silence less than five seconds long.

I'll bet millions of people would own such a device and use it.

(7,769 posts)You wouldn't schedule a function on Superbowl Sunday, would you?
It's either ignorant or purposeful of the DNC to schedule the Iowa debate during a #5 Iowa Hawkeyes game. Their schedule is released way before the college football season even starts so fans can make plans.
Save your DVR snark.
NanceGreggs
(27,822 posts)... are incapable of recording a two-hour debate, and watching it when it doesn't interfere with the scheduled games?
These endless conspiracy theories about the debates (and everything else to do with this election) are highly entertaining, though.

(27,822 posts)... who work late hours, night shifts, etc. weeknights are the most inconvenient time. No matter when debates are scheduled, the timing is never going to be good for everyone.
And that doesn't change the fact that millions of people have the ability to record any TV broadcast and watch it when convenient for them.
On any given day here on DU, there are posts about TV shows with "spoiler alert" warnings, because it's understood that millions of people record shows to watch after they've aired.
If someone can record "The Walking Dead" to watch later, they can record the debate and do the same.
In addition, the TV networks that host debates - like CBS tonight - have their own broadcast schedules to be considered and accommodated.
As I said, of all the whinging about every single aspect of this primary season, DebateGate is the most laughable, and, "But, but, but - there's a game on that night!!!!!!!!!!" is as ludicrous as it gets.

My TiVo is set to record the debate. But that's beside the point.
