Ann Romney worked the phrase 'real marriage' into her speech

My ears perked up when I heard the words 'real marriage'.

Reminded me of when Palin praised small towns as "the real America"

So, I went and found a transcript excerpt of what Ann Romney said

-snip-

I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a "storybook marriage." Well, in the storybooks I read, there were never long, long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once. And those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called MS or Breast Cancer.

A storybook marriage? No, not at all. What Mitt Romney and I have is a real marriage.

I know this good and decent man for what he is — warm and loving and patient.

He has tried to live his life with a set of values centered on family, faith, and love of one's fellow man. From the time we were first married, I've seen him spend countless hours helping others. I've seen him drop everything to help a friend in trouble, and been there when late-night calls of panic came from a member of our church whose child had been taken to the hospital.

You may not agree with Mitt's positions on issues or his politics. Massachusetts is only 13 percent Republican, so it's not like that's a shock.

Looks sorta fishy that she wove in the 'real marriage' phrase right before talking about values and faith.

Seems l like a big 'dog whistle' to the GOP base to me.

By using that phrase she got a lot of headlines stressing the point her marriage is 'real'

You know....first in the nation Massachusetts marriage?

If she were in a real marriage in the "fundy" tenants of her faith, she'd have a crew of sisters to keep her company when Mittsy was on the road.

She's a shit.

An utter and shameless shit.

She had a lot of explanation before the real marriage comment. None of it was really necessary. I don't know of anyone who thinks the Romney's have a story book marriage. But, then I don't read a lot about them, not even here. They don't interest me that much. But, I do read about their gaffes and their complete lack of compassion for other people. And I know she likes the term you people. I watched part of the speech all I got from it is she really does think of everyone else as you people. She looked insanely evil.

And using your illnesses oesn't make us like you. Makes us ALL wish we had your millions when our friends and family are sick. And it makes us sad that those other people you call "you people" have to hold fucking BAKE SALES to pay for OUR treatments.

And no one FORCED you to have five children. That was your choice, and not a particularly socially responsible thing to do.

FAIL.

Maybe she telling the other 4 wives to back off. But you're probably right about comparing it to gay marriage.

Does that mean she had to pop as many children out as required by her husband and the church?

I'm just asking....
