another update..
Word started leaking out in Las Vegas earlier that Donald Trump's "major announcement" is to back Newt Gingrich, and sources supporting the former House Speaker confirmed to POLITICO that was fhe case. The New York Times and the Associated Press, among others.
But by this morning, other sources said that Trump's endorsement may actually go to Mitt Romney, who Trump has been lobbied heavily to endorse for the last few weeks.

update...
Word started leaking out in Las Vegas earlier that Donald Trump's "major announcement" is to back Newt Gingrich, and sources are confirming it to POLITICO.
The announcement is expected to come at an 11:30 a.m. press conference tomorrow that The Donald is holding.
The move is a bit unexpected, since Trump had talked even within the last few days about how he may be compelled to run a third-party campaign of his own if he didn't see a Republican candidate who he thought could beat President Obama.

Does it get any better than this!!!
==========================
A 'major announcement' from Trump tomorrow
What it is exactly isn't clear.
But from Trump adviser Michael Cohen comes this statement:
Donald J. Trump will be making a major announcement tomorrow (Thursday, February 2, 2012) at 12:30 p.m. at Trump International Hotel & Tower, Las Vegas, Nevada. He will be arriving this evening at approximately 11:30 p.m. The announcement will pertain to the Presidential race.
Sources said last week that Trump was getting lobbied to endorse Mitt Romney in the GOP presidential race, but he's also continued talking about a potential run of his own as a third-party candidate.

(12,041 posts)And thus the only two who did not bruise his ego. If he were to endorse anyone it would be Gingrich, but I think a third party announcement is very likely.

(24,689 posts)For sure Trump is an ego maniac and anyone that bruises he ego will pay for it.

(12,041 posts)Romney was one of the first to say no to his debate and he was royally pissed off about it, I may be wrong but I think he would be more likely to run against Romney than endorse him. My guess is that he announces a third party run.

(24,689 posts)If it looks like Romney is inevitable, these two ego-maniacs might think they can win with a 3rd party run.. Newt/Trump. BTW, Trump left the Republican party last year and is now a registered Indepedent. This could get really interesting.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,802 posts)Despite the establishment rush to crown Romney as the nominee, first before he LOST SC and now that he's won FL, the "Not-Romney" crowd is really working hard to make sure that that doesn't happen anytime soon. Party unity is going to be a b***h for them this year!

(24,689 posts)In fact its possible Trump might be thnking 3rd party with himself as VP.
yes get the popcorn ready!

(26,353 posts)I mean really. Who gives a fluted shit who he is endorsing?
My bet is that of people who care, Kim Kardashian and Tim Tebow's opinion will carry more weight.

(24,802 posts)It's a natural now that I think about it.
Ruby the Liberal
(26,353 posts)It boggles the mind that someone could think so highly of themselves (or better, think others do) and to this extent.
I mean, really - scheduling a press conference in advance (including crossing the continent on an aircraft) to make sure you have maximum RadarOnline/TMZ exposure?
Boggles...
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)he goes third party, good. If he endorses Noot, good. Both help. Third Party run
perfect. But, even endorsing Noot - with all his money - and big fat mouth...he'll
be trashing Mittens.
This is WONDERFUL NEWS, glad I signed on will sleep like a baby tonight.

(26,353 posts)who delights more in the debates and campaign ads than should be considered a reasonable response to entertainment.
My problem wasn't that he chose Noot (and am thrilled he did - as I am not ready for the Night of Long Knives to end) - my problem was the pomp and circumstance he chose to surround said "announcement".
It personifies everything that is wrong with the LIV in this nation that anyone even gives a shit.
Know what I mean?

(26,353 posts)He must not have gotten the BREAKING!! URGENT!! headlines he was going for, so needed to mix it up a bit and add "uncertainty" to the mix to see if he can't lizard his way into the newz cycle.
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)and I haven't read all the comments so someone may have already mentioned. Maybe he's looking to CAUSE a brokered convention - and hope the party (that he just left to be an independent) picks him to save the day? His ego really is that big.
And, of course - GO BLUE!!!

That one guy from Saturday Night Live used to do the best impression I had ever seen of Trump.
By the way, even though Trump is going to endorse Noot, that weasel that Trump wears on top of his head is leaning towards endorsing Romney.

(42,770 posts)Be because his comments tarnish his electability
Not because they are worried he doesn't care about the poor.
The Republicans I know are concerned and upset that the country is going broke from helping
people who are bilking the system - taking government money
and being lazy. They think it's a huge portion of the budget
and growing in leaps and bounds - although in reality it's only
9% of the budget.

(36,974 posts)I remember the night when news broke that President Obama was going to make an important announcement late in the evening...
all the cable news networks had their cameras focused on Obama's podium at the White House for a couple of hours and before President Obama had the chance to come to the microphone to tell The USA and The World that Bin Laden was dead the reporters said it first.
That really pissed me off!
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)they project election winners a second after the polls close. My favorite political memories
are of the days when you didn't really know what was going to happen and you could watch
the numbers all night. It was fun and exciting.
