Bain Press Release Claims CEO Romney Is On Part-Time Leave To Run Olympics
The Romney campaign has claimed that the former Massachusetts governor cut all ties with Bain Capital when he left to run the 2002 Winter Olympics in February of 1999, but a press release from July of 1999 seems to contradict this account. Bain Capital CEO W. Mitt Romney is currently on a part-time leave of absence to head the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee for the 2002 Games, the release, uncovered by Daily Kos Jed Lewison, states. The document announces the departure of two Bain managing directors. In 1999, Romney himself had stated that he would stay on as a part-timer with Bain providing input on investment and key personnel decisions.

And a former executive, Mark B. Wolpow, says:
I reported directly to Mitt Romney . . . You cant be CEO of Bain Capital and say, `I really dont know what my guys were doing, Mr. Wolpow said of Mr. Romney role at the company during his leave.

(397 posts)More than anything I believe Romney's lies about his time at Bain will strike the deadly blow to his bid for leadership of America. He is already widely disliked and distrusted as an out of touch snob. Now it turns out that independent sources are proving what everyone has known all along-he's also a liar and dissembler like his predecessor Dublya. We don't need another Dublya in office.

(10,103 posts)He was there, not in a leave of absence, but working at Bain as the sole proprietor, CEO, blah, blah, blah.
He is, again, lying...and trying to convince the world they shouldn't impugn his non-existent credibility, ethics and virtue.

(308 posts)If he said he left in 1999 but was actually working there in some capacity until 2002, then that is a lie.
I'm sure the pro-Romney media will try to claim it's not really a lie, but I hope the public won't be fooled.
Is anyone else disappointed with the coverage on CNN this week? It seems to me that Anderson Cooper, John King and David Gergen are in the tank for Romney and have been trying to downplay the significance of his shady background at Bain. I'm particularly disappointed with Mr. Gergen who I thought was a political commentator with more integrity than that.
