2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLike so many Americans, Hillary is having to make do with less
Hillary's too modest to make a big deal about these kinds of things, but did you know that the bungalow that she and Bill are renting for this summer's vacation will cost HALF of what they spent last summer?
http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/real-estate/clintons-drop-100k-three-week-hamptons-rental-article-1.1895360
And there's no email server on the premises. The Secret Service did a sweep to make sure.
All of this is Hillary's way of making it crystal clear that she feels the same pressures as you Proles, and she's leading through ACTION, not TALK. She's one of you. And so am I. I even capitalized Proles as a sign of respect.
Of course, because of you people and your fickle "voting preferences", Hillary can't enjoy her well-deserved rest - she back on the campaign trail early, saving America from creeping Socialism:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/22/us/hillary-clinton-will-interrupt-vacation-to-campaign-in-midwest.html
So can you people get it through your heads already that we totally care about income inequality, and all the rest of that crap you Lefties are fixated on? Like you, we also want to fix the Democratic Party. We too want to know how our party became Wall Street's plaything, and once Hillary's in office she's committed to launching an investigation to get answers.
So enough of your obsession with a man whose hair care costs less than $10 a week, and who probably doesn't even rent a summer cottage. Just say "no" to Socialistsplainin', and "yes" to the woman whose life is exactly like yours.

I do not think they made very much in Arkansas, only after they made it to the big time in DC with the bankers. Curious if Bernie is spending millions on multiple houses and tens of thousands on a summer vacation. He has been a public servant at least the same amount of time.

It appears that billionaires like the Reality TV Star spend some of their money on politicians' campaigns because they actually get something in return.
That should be no surprise, Billionaires don't throw their money away without expecting some kind of return on their investment.
Which is also what Joe Biden said recently. That we MUST make the 'corrosive, corrupting effect of money on our electoral system the #1 issue of this campaign' because, Biden said, agreeing with Bernie actually, 'if we do not end this practice, NOTHING ELSE can get done'.
He even told us not to even trust him, no matter how much we may like him, because he said, 'trust me, even the best intentioned person can be corrupted by that money'.
So there you go, I'm sure Donald's donations are pretty much pocket change to HIM, though most likely a full year's salary to the rest of us.
Still, you asked, I answered.

Bill and Hillary epitomize the American dream. Unlike the first three in that list (and most Republicans), Hillary and Bill have dedicated their wealth to making lives around the world better via the Clinton Foundation and furthering the goals of more economic fairness, environmental protection, AIDS prevention and treatment, etc. unlike the Koch Brothers, or Trump Organization, or Bush Inc.

But I'm always happy to see that people are focused on the important issues that face the nation - like who rented a summer bungalow, and where - the implications thereof being the very essence of the challenges that must be faced, and dealt with head-on.

Or are you proposing that a significant number of Democrats hate Hillary so much that they would turn to another candidate despite disagreeing with him on the issues? (30,254 posts)Roosevelt and Kennedy were far wealthier than the Clintons. As for Sanders, I don't care if he paid $10 or $100 for a haircut. A candidate's net worth is inconsequential, as far as I'm concerned. BTW, the Clintons were the poorest couple to enter the WH since Truman. Just saying, since you seem soooo concerned about their wealth..........
tularetom
(23,664 posts)So, where did all this money come from? By her own admission they were broke when they left the White House. She was a Senator for 6 years or so, then SofS for 4. The pay isn't bad but it isn't enough to afford a rental mansion @ $50,000 a week.
And Bill Clinton can't practice law anymore since he's been disbarred. And yet they have managed to accumulate a net worth north of $20 million. Don't say its from "hard work". Nobody seriously believes that giving speeches at $250k a pop is hard work.
There's only one conclusion; these people sold their position for financial gain.
Beacool
(30,254 posts)The money came from the advances and royalties paid for their books. Also from Bill's speeches, and after she left public office, from her paid speeches too.
They made their money the old fashioned way, they earned it.
tularetom
(23,664 posts)Nobody is saying former presidents have to take a vow of poverty, but the way the Clintons have snarfed up money over the past decade is unseemly at best.
Making speeches to fat cats and putting your name on ghost written books is not what most Americans would call earning it.

The Clintons are hitting the beach.
Former President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are slated to arrive in the Hamptons hamlet of Amagansett Thursday, where they're renting a palatial home owned by private art collector Andre Nasser and his wife Lois.
