(885 posts)There can be way too many factors for a simple yes/no. It has to be handled on a case by case basis based on including severity, intent, and target (if intentional). I think the punishment could range from no punishment (in the case of whistle blowers), to reprimand or firing, to losing classified privileges, to jail time.
I will say this. There is way way too much stuff classified in this country.

(937 posts)DU'ers think (and want) Hillary should be put in jail
Sh** like this, I'll be sitting out 2016

(885 posts)There hasn't been a mention of her name in this thread except by you. People could just as easily be talking about one of the whistle blowers in the news or speaking generally. I've seen no calls for her head here.

(885 posts)Don't know how I missed that one.
I still think the majority of replies to this have been civil and non-combative towards her, OP aside.

My thoughts are laws should be consistently applied.

(19,348 posts)The blind hatred for the Clinton's has caused many to go over the edge.
Bernie 2016 = Obama 2008 for them.
With that said, I will fully support HRC, Bernie. Martin, and Lincoln as the GE candidate.

(9,497 posts)So then we can be enraged by the responses we so carefully are trying to receive.
How many people are fed up with polls?
Please say Aye or I won't let you respond in a nuanced way.

(14,602 posts)Part of me believes this is a Karl Rove trick to mire the front runner Dem in baseless accusations.
Sure, it's not a good idea for Secretaries of State to use their private emails, but you know what? Hillary is not the first who has done so. Other Secretaries of State have done just the same. See, this is the hypocrisy of the whole thing. I mean, I can remember back in the 90s all we heard from the great swollen Republican propaganda organs was 'Whitewater, Whitewater, Whitewater.' And, NOTHING ever came from it.
Then, we had 'Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi,' and NOTHING came of that, either.
Now we have 'Email, Email, Email.'
So forgive me if I don't think anything will come of this latest.
If she did wrong, then fine, prosecute. But if she didn't, which is what I suspect will happen, then don't.
I support Bernie strongly, but I hate seeing Clinton get attacked by crap like this. Yes, attack her for being almost entirely poll driven. Attack her for being tepid on issues we care about. Attack her for running a lackluster campaign. Attack her on the issues.
But not on something like this.

(53,112 posts)Seriously. It depends on the circumstances involved and the terms of any governing statutes.

(12,655 posts)but it really depends. would have to know the statutes involved and what "mishandled" means..there are many ways of handling from careless to nefarious. details matter.

(16,685 posts)All other things being equal? Probably so. But, like most things it's entirely dependent upon the circumstances.

(59,508 posts)However, just because it COULD be a crime, foes not mean anything HRC did merits charges, much less conviction. This is both premature and over the top - almost convicting her before any charges are even suggested much less made.
What is far more likely is this is a political negative and emphasizes some of her negative characteristics.
