NARFE Congressional Scorecard for the 113th Congress

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association

Dear NARFE Members,

By now, you should have received your copy of the October issue of narfe magazine. I want to take this opportunity to call your attention to the NARFE Congressional Scorecard for the 113th Congress, which appears in that issue.

Out of 1,121 House and 547 Senate roll-call votes cast between January 3, 2013, and August 1, 2014, NARFE identified nine House and three Senate votes where federal employee and retiree interests were most clearly at stake. The House votes, the most ever selected, include those dealing with federal pay, budget resolutions, contracting-out and whether to end the government shutdown. Four budget resolution votes are shown because each targeted federal employees and retirees for sacrifice not asked of others or was not balanced as recommended by formal and informal fiscal commissions. The NARFE Scorecard found that, as with nearly all action and inaction on Capitol Hill, voting on these issues is more polarized than ever.

This biennial feature is the longest-running in narfe magazine. The vote scoring serves many purposes, but endorsement is not among them. NARFE does not endorse candidates but rather seeks to empower federal employees and retirees to be informed voters and their own best advocates.

Please click here ( http://www.narfe.org/pdf/2014VoteAnalysis.pdf ) to see a short description of each vote, and the full voting scorecard by state.
