2. Exactly. This is the Congress' job, they decide about spending and taxing, not the President.

The Congress created the debt ceiling, it could un-create it tomorrow, or make it whatever they like, but the President can do none of those things.

but as long as the media points to President Obama, they're able to continue the suspenseful narrative. If they were to focus on Congress ... where the solution lies, someone (in congress) might have to do something that'll subject them to a primary challenge by the nutty wing of their party.

No ... best to lie this at the feet of President Obama and keep the status quo.

And he seems to be making a public point of that. Having watched in frustration as the two preceding Democratic Presidents both habitually and passively went along with these bizarre games, I am glad to see the change. And the Democrats in Congress seem to have his back on it too, which is in some ways a bigger deal. Carter, for example, had a lot of enemies in his own party, and Clinton had himself.
