2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOh media how transparent you are
It's super close it's super close it's super close ..for months
Day before the election Hillary is going to win.
Let me just say fuck you and your horse race. This race was never close and you knew it the whole time.
Your quest for profit let this despicable human being spew racist vomit all over our country with wall to wall coverage.
We will be living with the effects of your greed for years to come trying to stamp out all the racists you allowed that monster to legitimize because a horse race is profitable.
Watching you all line up today to admit finally this thing is over has made me sick to my stomachache. You have terrorized people for months pretending this buffoon had a shot at winning this thing. Ignoring purposely the fundamental reality of this race.
Our country is and has been far too diverse for the old white men to carry a national election by themselves for over a decade. Still you pretended a man that went out of his way to denigrate every single.minority had a chance.
He didn't he doesn't and his type never will have a chance in this great melting pot of ours.
Aghhh just had to get that off my chest.

(28,795 posts)media couldn't WAIT to pounce on them both
swiftboating was what destroyed Kerry's candidacy, and it was a TOTAL lie, pushed hard, with gleeful relish, by the liberal media
a nothing story, molehill turned into a mountain because the media is what it is

(28,795 posts)campaign, til the VERY end was to run against the dishonest media.
whenever a dem in the past complained about the ridiculously slanted, socalled liberal media, that person was ridiculed as whining wimps, not worthy of being allowed on the stage. they dared not criticize them. when trump made it the backdrop of his campaign, what did they do, for the most part?
CAVE. ignore the myriad falsehoods/frauds/scams/bankruptcies that comprised his career/campaign, almost never going into any detail wrt the depth of his corruption.
compare that to what they did with the slightest "optics" of less than acceptable behavior on the part of any dem candidate, pouncing on the assumed scandal as a starving wolverine pursues as wounded rabbit.
look what they did to poor simp Dukakis, then WJC. then Gore/Kerry. what they tried to do to Obama. and now Hillary. what a joke. Trump wouldn't have made it past the first month of primarying, if the press had lifted their pinkies to uncover just what a crooked, lying MADMAN this creep is. it was all out there, barely under the surface; indeed he'd been exposed several times by real journalists, who were ignored by the only media that matters at this point: TV. if you don't see it on the tube, it didn't happen. that's still the way it is....might change in the next few years, but it hasn't happened yet.
a fricking MADman. why was that never made an issue?

(630 posts)I just pay attention to the maps and prediction models. If all goes as planned Clinton can win even without Florida or North Carolina.

(7,777 posts)They cannot allow free coverage of one candidate to dominate the airwaves.
No more "call-in" interviews. No more stacked debates. No more he said/ so then she said equivocation
They have to call out lies when they are spoken every single time. They must use the word lies or untrue.
Lies are not facts. They are not who, what, where or when

(27,612 posts)My husband predicts trump will get no more than 40 million votes, and that's too many.. He just believes that's all the racists in America.
Damn I hope he's right

That orange-maned horse lying on his side in the distance? He's not dead! He's just resting - and pining for the fjords!"
Oh, BTW, K&R! Well done!

(27,630 posts)Then why are media outlets where I am (sweden) also treating this like a horse race?
They could be enjoying the ratings, but intuitively it shouldn't be all that hot of a topic to begin with. As if there weren't big, local stories to obsess over, closer to home.
Are the media in europe simply repeating what the US media feeds them, or is there basis to think it is a close race?

(10,893 posts)to get complacent, but all this time cable news networks have spent making this race seem more competitive than it actually is (as well as devoting ample time to certain Hillary non-scandals that less people care about each day) could've been spent towards covering more serious matters such as the pipeline demonstrations. I've mostly been watching sports for the past few weeks until this election is over tomorrow night for the sake of my sanity.

(26,863 posts)The problem is that they legitimize and empower the lunatics who see the coverage and think most people are just like them, thus buying trump's claims of a rigged election if he loses. These folks will not disappear after the election because they are now convinced they represent the majority.
