I feel confident Hillary is going to win tomorrow!
Republicans will once again be scratching their heads, trying to figure out what they have to do. Some of them might even have some good answers, but I suspect as usual they won't be able to do anything that they should.
Have some fun with your answer or be serious about it.

(30,481 posts)Republicans are on a long run of wins from dog catcher up.
We often focus too much on the highest ticket. They have been brilliant at the state level.
We don't even know the results of tomorrow yet. I am highly confident Clinton will take it, less sure about the houses.
Nothing I have seen shows that Republicans are down and out.

(17,751 posts)That is the case in Florida. Votes blue in the last several POTUS elections, but has a solidly red state legislature and a f-ing RW loon for governor.
Hard to blame gopers when Dems don't vote.

(3,166 posts)This is like an endless cycle that re-sets every two years. In Presidential years, Republicans can't get it together and can't appeal to enough women or people of color to win the Presidential race, and they wring their hands wondering what happened. Then in off-year elections the Democrats can't get their voters out and spend their time running away from successful policies, and they wring THEIR hands! Instead of trying to figure out how Republicans can improve, Democrats need to fix their own problems and figure out why we have such a hard time winning in off-years. The Republicans will start preparing for the 2018 elections on Wednesday!
this is exactly it ...

(65,616 posts)Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it is not happening. Currently Trump supporters hate the GOP, imagine that and after he loses the election they will blame the GOP for the loss.
It is a win win for the Democratic Party, you will see.

Highly inaccurate statement. Absolutes in this context always will be seriously inaccurate.
You are talking micro when the discussion was clearly macro.
When one is looking desperately be argumentative, context, by way of necessity, is most always left out in the cold.

(30,481 posts)Absolute comment with a context that cannot exist in reality. It is that simple.
Again. Micro, macro, leave context behind. Not sure what you are even arguing with respect to the point.

Trump has destroyed the GOP, it is now splintered into groups that hate each other.

(14,564 posts)Yes, Trump is going to try to keep his seat the table, and Rs will do their childlike emotive BS for a few weeks.
Then the reality of a democratic president will sink in and they will find themselves as they are now - brothers in arms against the evil liberal boogywoman.
Cause that is what they do, scorpion and frog.
And, if we win the senate and do what is right with the filibuster, you WILL hear these exact words - THE DEMOCRATS JUST UNITED US LIKE WE NEVER COULD. Which will precede a shitstorm this country hasn't seen since the civil war.
Rex
(65,616 posts)Until then, you have no idea what you are talking about. The GOP is falling apart. I guess some folks will have to deal with it?

Simple, they must re-develop a moderate wing of their party....quit divisive rhetoric...promote voting by all people...reach out to minorities...join the 21st century on women and gay issues...quit being hypocrites about the role of government...don't politicize science...limit the role of religion in politics without sacrificing your values...bring back humility, dignity and class to their party, thus limiting the carnival barkers role
In essence, cease being the stupid party.

Some of the "never Trumpers" that MESSNBC hired sure sound more like Center Left Democrats than Republicans. They still believe in trickle down economics but they can't believe the Trumpanzees running the current Republican party.
I'm guessing they are thinking about leaving the GOP and letting the Breitbart / infowars people have the carcass.

(1,151 posts)It's a trick question. They can't stop losing. Okay so let's say they get smart, realize "okay this Southern Strategy shit isn't working anymore" and then try to appeal to POC. More candidates like Mitt, Jeb and John, and they rewrite the rules (maybe with superdelegates + proportional delegate allocation) to prevent another Trump coup.
Oh but, the problem is that POC, particularly Black and Hispanic people, already lean left by default. Unless the GOP somehow runs to the LEFT of the Dems on stuff like BLM, they won't gain more than 3-4% points with AAs, and while they could improve their numbers with Hispanics back to the 25-30% range, it will be VERY hard given the fact that Trump has created a nationwide Pete Wilson effect that not only makes the GOP toxic with Hispanics, but has turned them from LPVs to LVs. And what do they get for all this? They lose 25-50% of the deplorables, who will either stay home or join a new Deplorable Party. Or they can go down with the Deplorable ship and lose every election by 4-6% points and 300+ EVs until they stumble into the dustbin of history as the country gets blacker, browner and more diverse, and the millennials gain political and economic power (the same millennials who favor socialism over capitalism when polled).
Pretty much it's a massive snowball that the GOP really can't do anything about, while still being "conservative". Of course, they could resume their historic role from the 19th century, and become a radical progressive party, but other than that, I just don't see a way.
With that said, downballots will be a pain until the gerrymander is broken but once it IS broken, the House becomes a Dem lock again. And hopefully we can focus more on state legislatures and gubernatorials as well.
