Related: About this forumIs Pence Going To Quit?
He will never be Vice President and he knows it.
What good does it do for him to "help" Donald Trump?
He can't help getting the slime all over him, and it doesn't wash off, ever.
Quitting is his only real option in my opinion if he ever wants to run for anything again.

(24,396 posts)can run him as the pres candidate. If they think they can, he will stay on as a gesture to the party. If they are stuck with Trump, he may as well bail. Makes no sense to stay on a sinking ship that the rats are fleeing in droves.

(19,264 posts)One doesn't simply "quit" an election 30 days before election day (and after in most cases ballots have already been printed). Doing that is simply quitting politics for the rest of your life.
So he will ride it out and try to minimize the amount of slime that ends up on him. He is also hoping people have short memories and he can reboot in 4 years.

(4,667 posts)That was his only objective. He joined the ticket as a way out of a tough Indiana Governor's race he could have lost. If his reelection in Indiana had been assured, he would have stayed Governor, and launched his 2020 bid from there.
At this point why stay on for 5 weeks? He has no more high profile event oportunities. The only national appearance left for him is to stand behind Trump during his concession speech.
There's nothing left to accomplish. He could leave now with the moral high ground and actually be in a better position for the GOP nomination in 2020.
It just makes to much sense. He would be politically crazy to NOT drop out.

(5,158 posts)Sure, Trump could replace him, but wouldn't Trump's replacement have to be officially nominated by the RNC? And what about the people who have already voted? Millions of ballots have been printed with Pence's name on them; what would happen to those? At this point, I think it's too late for either of them to drop out. The election is a month from today.

(15,951 posts)VP doesn't count that much--it's really the presidential nominee that matters on the ballots.
