2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBizarre (hidden?) backstage footage of Donald Trump very begrudgingly answering a kid's question.
(Cross posted from GD)
I had come across this video a few months ago. At least I thought I had, because I wasn't able to find it at any point since and I thought it either a) had been deleted under threat of the Trump campaign or b) was merely a figment of my imagination.
Yet lo and behold, I was able to locate it once again. I have no idea who the videographer was, why he was there, whether Trump knew he was being filmed, or any other circumstances behind the video.
The only thing I could see was a rare glimpse of how Donald Trump acts when he knows TV cameras aren't being pushed in his face, and the answer to that question is, not very nicely.
Some kid somehow got access to Trump backstage and wanted to ask him a question about paying for college.
Trump is directed towards the kid by an handler, and immediately bemoans the situation as a major inconvenience to him:
"Oh, I can't believe I have to do a question now."
The kid apologizes and says he'll be quick. Trump's still not happy or impressed, and interrupts him mid-sentence:
"Okay, let's go."
He asks his question, and Trump blurts out a stock, vague non-answer about college education.
And that's it.
But you just have to see how unhappy Trump is throughout all of this. You think a politician would be at least somewhat happy that a young kid has taken an interest in politics, and yet Trump has no desire whatsoever to at least look enthused or humor the kid or do anything that might inspire him. Instead, he's just annoyed, not even bothering to smile once or compliment the kid.
Here's the video:
So there you go. That's the real Donald Trump when no one is looking. Self-absorbed and annoyed by anyone who's not him. Amazing

(15,696 posts)When he went to college, his parents filled out the applications & that was that. Unlike the kid asking the question, Trump never had to take AP classes, fill his portfolio with community service projects, or even have the grades for consideration and aptitudes for standardized tests. And the money for tuition and housing was nothing to his parents. His only care in the world was being accepted by the society kids... Which he never was and could never be.

(364 posts)I don't think he did or said anything wrong...he answered the question in a positive, inspiring way - if you do well in school, we'l do everything to make sure you go to college. This was one of his good moments, actually!
