2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo is the Trump Campaign's only answer to questions about the Trump Foundation scam....
....."Oh yeah, well Bill Clinton had a foundation, too!"?
Seriously. That's the only answer I've heard from them. The only one. And they haven't even identified anything remotely scandalous about the Clinton Foundation and yet insist that it is more outrageous than a "charity" that relied exclusively on donations from other people, and then spent much of the proceeds on political donations, buying artwork and sports memorabilia, and settling lawsuits filed against Trump's for profit businesses.
I tried to give my mind an objective viewpoint to analyze the situation, and yet I can't get past the fact that the entire Trump Foundation business was utterly beyond contempt. I'd feel a little bad criticizing it if it was a legitimate charity that perhaps wasn't as well run as Bill Clinton's. But it's not--the two are not comparable. One was legitimate and worthy, and one is nothing more than a scam and a slush fund. I seriously hope this is what brings this horrible man down.

(43,235 posts)It deserves a Pulitizer.
Although if Trump gets elected, he'll probably be shipped off to Guantanamo.

(24,820 posts)I believe Farenthold already has one Pulitzer.
I'm predicting Farenthold will be the hero of this election, and Trump will be indicted before the election...October surprise.
Your thoughts?

(43,235 posts)It's a scandal that's easy for most of the American people to understand, and most of the American people to be upset about.
Money for charity being used for personal reasons. Bam. Done. Disgusting.
It's straight forward and not convoluted with technicalities. It's hilarious at times--the notion of Donald Trump forcing his wife to buy a $20,000 portrait of himself with charity money because no one wanted to bid on it--it's comical.

(24,820 posts)Of all the heinous acts and statements, and accusations, I think this one has the most potential for sticking, and for offending / turning people off to voting for him.
I suppose it's only magical thinking...but I am imagining an indictment to come down in October. The only drawback is that assuming it's from the US government and/or IRS, it will be viewed as politically motivated.
Farenthold may well be our generation's Edward R. Murrow. Let's hope.

(50,986 posts)capitalist. He's defined by money and is motivated by money only.
His supporters behave like barbarians.
His running mate is a far-right errand boy.
I'd like to see voters reject the Republican ticket on Nov 8 in historic percentages.

Hope to heck the Con Job goes there, that will be one hell of a fire storm. Con Job's Brain does not function in a Numerical Manner. He can only memorize things that he has said in the past. And those things are mostly lies. The Guy is not that smart.

(7,004 posts)Foundation (having only heard the lies) until I read about it here at DU. Someone made a pretty good graphic of it also.
This needs to blow up in the media on the conman extraordinaire.

Ben Garbarek: And with the Washington Post report out this week about the Trump Foundation. Could you explain to people why you may have used some charitable donations for personal uses?
Trump: The foundation is really rare. It gives money to that. It's really been doing a good job. I think we put that to sleep just by putting out the last report."
See... all cleared up!
