(51,122 posts)Those millions should have gone to picking off a vulnerable Republican.

(14,689 posts)Look at most primaries where an incumbent is running. 14 points is relatively close when running against an entrenched incumbent.

(146,319 posts)Yes, it's a primary with a popular incumbent. But, anyone who thought there was a chance for Canova should have known he wouldn't win. Canova was on a fool's errand with his run.

Thank you.

(11,641 posts)They probably are going to win. Or is that just one of the unwritten perks included with being the head of the DNC?

When WikiLeaks published a trove of hacked Democratic National Committee emails in July, website founder Julian Assange promised the world he'd upend the 2016 presidential election. That hasn't quite happened, but Assange did get to at least claim one politician as a trophy: The document dump forced Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign her post as chair of the Democratic National Committee.

In one instance, Wasserman Schultz personally asked campaign staff to remove Canova's name from the headline in an outgoing news release.
In another email chain, DNC spokesperson Luis Miranda asked staffers to "do some digging" for information about a May rally at which Canova planned to speak in Alaska. The rally had been scheduled to compete with one of Wassserman Schultz's speeches.
"When is he [Canova] speaking compared to when she [Wasserman Schultz] is speaking?" DNC staffer Kate Houghton wrote May 12. "Adding a few more people. We need as much intel as you can provide."..

(146,319 posts)Simple. I don't live in that district. I don't live in Florida. People vote for whom they choose in every congressional district.

(146,319 posts)I have no idea how she ran her campaign. As I said, I'm not in her district, and can't vote for her in any case.

(146,319 posts)Perhaps you've mistaken me for someone who follows congressional campaigns far from where I live, aside from checking primary results. Perhaps you're barking up the wrong tree.
I don't know.

(1,737 posts)I recently moved out of her district and I was so sorry I couldn't vote for her this election but I spoke with everyone that I knew who could vote for her and they love Debbie. We love Debbie, we've been with her through her ups and downs and she has been with us. She's a fighter and represents her district well.

(146,319 posts)It's tough to beat an incumbent, especially one who has achieved some national prominence. Canova should have realized that before joining the race.

(26,084 posts)I know quite a few people who live in her district, and they all like her and vote for her. Even the really lefty ones do, even if they don't agree with some of her policies, because she is very good for their district.
