(25,551 posts)He says that John Madden starts and ends sentences with the same phrase.
Great football is about great football.
In John's case, he probably got hit in the head a lot as a player. Not sure what Trump's excuse is.

(3,288 posts)Repeating things like that is a mind trick. The first time you hear it, your brain can gloss over it. If it's repeated again right away, it sticks more clearly in your mind.
It's like a little mini-hypnosis to make what he's saying stick more firmly in your brain. It's an old marketing trick and used by all kinds of showmen, stage magicians, and hypnotists.

He's a businessman, he's extremely good at marketing. This is a marketing gimmick, and there's no way he's using it accidentally. He may be using it reflexively after years of practicing it, but it's certainly no accident.
It's like the Jedi mind trick. Only works on weak-minded fools, but when it works, it works like crazy.

(102,637 posts)of the "Power of Positive Thinking" book fame... I heard a piece on NPR with respect to the religious backgrounds of both Hillary (Methodist) and DT. This makes sense if you know anything about Peale. He was really into the positive think become positive reality vein of thinking and the repeated phrasing (self-talk) likely has to do with the tactics behind that.

Hopefully Trump will have good cause to sing the blues, repetitions and all, come November.

(28,353 posts)he formulates his next thought and decides what to say.
I would also guess at some time in his life he developed this pattern to avoid too many "uhs and ums."
And yes, the man has no internal thesaurus. I noticed his elder sons have the same impediment.

(6,436 posts)he really isn't sure anybody is really listening or paying attention to him.
Another symptom of someone not being sure anybody is going to - really - listen to them, is loud talking - bellowing. I'm not talking about when on a lectern giving a campaign speech exhorting people to care about something, or to hate your opponent. I'm talking about people who talk loudly in normal conversation.
There is another reason involved here too. He 1) doesn't have much knowledge of anything he talks about. Not having much knowledge means he lacks detailed comprehension of his subject. THat plus a pretty limited vocabulary means he can't come up with much to say. So he fills what would be empty places with repetition of the few words he has used.
