2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSanders fans make scene in neon green glow in the dark t-shirts
Bernie Sanderss delegates are making their presence known on the final day of the Democratic National Convention by wearing cant-miss neon-green T-shirts.
Backers of the Democratic presidential runner-up have disrupted convention proceedings with protests inside and outside the Wells Fargo Center, charging the Democratic Party did not treat him fairly in his primary fight.
But as Hillary Clinton prepares to take the stage and accept the partys presidential nomination Thursday, Sanders backers say they want to be seen, but not to make a scene.
It was something suggested online in a national delegates forum, said Carol Dorshkind, a California delegate supporting Sanders. I thought it would be cool to see a whole sea of Bernie supporters.

(27,808 posts)sigh. Everyone's had to reference him, the camera always has to be on him, his supporters need to be coddled. I even saw an (online) headline the other day that said, "Bernie Sanders Nominates Hillary Clinton for President".
democrattotheend
(11,605 posts)And it was the Hillary campaign that wanted him to call for nominating her so I don't know why you have a problem with that headline. I am pretty sure it is the headline the campaign wanted to project unity.
I also don't understand why you have a problem with speakers acknowledging him. He did a lot better than anyone expected and brought a lot of new people into the process, most of whom will vote for Hillary, despite the vocal few who keep running for cameras to proclaim otherwise. After being such a class act, why shouldn't he be recognized? I am pretty sure I recall speakers paying tribute to Hillary and her campaign in 2008 and I certainty wasn't bothered by it.
Unity goes both ways.

Maybe they can wear green glow tape over their obnoxious mouths.
Or green glow bags over their heads.
They give the Party the best reason to keep the Super Delegates.

(9,148 posts)Thats how Bernies true supporters behave.
They respect Bernie's request.
democrattotheend
(11,605 posts)If so, I hope the media gives them as much attention as the dissenters. Wishful thinking probably.
I really wish I had thought to have my "Bernie has my heart, Hillary has my vote" signs printed and given them out when I was in Philly on Monday.
The good news is, my unity products are selling like crazy these last few days, so obviously there are many Bernie supporters who will vote for Hillary.

wave those signs in front of the basket on the hometeam floor with 1 freethrow to the championship on the line.
Thanks for increasing the degree of difficulty. A nonstop glaring protest right in her face as she attempts to
focus on hitting all the right notes in front of the "home crowd"

(30,481 posts)When they tune in an overwhelming amount of what they see are our speakers. Their message resonates. Then, on certain stations, a small amount of people who really aren't presenting themselves well are being painted as if their grievance is with the message itself.
Get that. Excellent speakers sharing a progressive message with bits of foolish looking people appearing to be in opposition to said message thrown in.
Might I ask how they aren't helping us? More people watching. Great speakers. Foolish sounding people opposing. They clearly don't have the numbers to damage what is turning into a brilliant convention, it would be a different story if they did.

(30,481 posts)Not one word I stated gave them credit. I'm talking about the optics and the fact they are being painted as standing in opposition to what the speakers are saying.
Unintended consequence on their part.

(1,151 posts)This is about 40-50/1900 delegates. So a shade over 2 of Bernie's delegation and dropping as they're walked out%.
totally relevant and impactful.

(79 posts)Seriously, for once I wish they would just grow the fuck up and keep quiet when she makes her speech.
Just now, during the moment of silence, one asshole just had to yell out. And that's all anyone will focus on.
This is so serious, so important and these idiots want to fuck it up in a display of petulance.

I cringe when I hear the heckling, but I am also very opposed to calls by some here to make our nomination process more restrictive to prevent another Bernie.

(11,605 posts)"Sanders backers say they want to be seen, but not to make a scene."
I think wearing glow in the dark shirts is a good way to remind people that Bernie and his ideas got a lot of support at the polls without disrupting and marginalizing the movement.
