Hillary Clinton's Foreign Policy Speech MARRED by Inherent Contradictions

"Hillary Clinton's history of supporting interventionism puts her in a weird place to be portraying her opponent as trigger happy."

-snip-

The speech, delivered in San Diego five days ahead of California's June 7 primary, lambasted the presumptive Republican nominee as "temperamentally unfit" to be President of the United States. The full remarks are here.

"Americans aren't just electing a president in November," Clinton said, "we're choosing our next commander-in-chief, a person we count on to answer questions of war and peace, life and death. The person the Republicans have nominated for president cannot do the job."

Clinton noted that Trump has praised leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea's Kim Jong Un, quipping: "I will leave it to the psychiatrists to explain his affection for tyrants." But that was just one of several statements that raised observers' eyebrows, in a speech that some said was full of fundamental contradictions—and hinted at Clinton's own hawkish positions. After all, as journalist Robert Parry wrote in April, "If Clinton becomes President, she will be surrounded by a neocon-dominated American foreign policy establishment that will press her to resume its 'regime change' strategies in the Middle East and escalate its new and dangerous Cold War against Russia."

Glenn Greenwald ✔@ggreenwald

Awkward: Hillary to give a speech on the very thing Dem pundits have spent a year desperately trying to ignore: her foreign policy.

Anya Parampil @anyaparampil

#Clinton just put military action against Iran back on the table and criticized Trump for wanting to be "neutral" on Israel/Palestine

Anya Parampil @anyaparampil

Listening to this speech & Clinton's words on Iran, Russia, & Israel, SHE sounds like the neocon candidate. Why can't Kristol run her?

Shazad Hamid @ShazadHamid

Like Clinton's love for Henry Kissinger, Benjamin Netanyahu, the king of Saudi Arabia, and Dick Cheney.

I think her words were "We came we saw and Iraqi's died". It wasn't personal, it was just a business opportunity. She is now worth $150,000,000 plus her Foundation Retirement Plan.

You've embraced a neocon candidate, Richard Perle, Kristol, Kissinger and all the neocons love her. Attempting to deny it or try to claim Bernie is as bad is desperate.

I remember when, as a democrat, it wasn't "cool" to saber rattle and want to get involved in foreign skirmishes around the world. When did we change? I know a lot of us didn't change at all and we still hate this "muscular foreign policy" baloney.

of Democrats think we're better off as a result of US interventionist wars. Our "muscular foreign policy" has led to the wholesale murder and destitution of millions upon millions. Has the American population truly become so cynical and self absorbed that a major percentage just don't care about that? "Culture of Narcissism" (Christopher Lasch) indeed.

Bombs and showing strength. Israel 100% correct every time. Palestinians are insignificant.

"And if America doesn’t lead, we leave a vacuum – and that will either cause chaos, or other countries will rush in to fill the void. Then they’ll be the ones making the decisions about your lives and jobs and safety – and trust me, the choices they make will not be to our benefit.
That is not an outcome we can live with.
As I see it, there are some important things our next President must do to secure American leadership and keep us safe and our economy growing in the years ahead. These are all areas in which Donald Trump and I profoundly disagree. And they are all critical to our future."

Yay! Lets flex them muscles!

It was the pot calling the kettle black throughout.

She gives a better speech (although still painfully offputting and tedious to watch) and she memorizes reusable talking points better, but after that I've got nothing to put in the plus column.
