I helped my lifelong Republican father

vote for President Obama and VP Joe Biden last night.

He's elderly, and a bit shaky, so I helped with the envelopes, but he did the ballot himself.

I couldn't help asking him why Obama, since as I said, he is a lifelong Republican. He said, "I don't like Romney. I don't like his demeaner, or the things he says."

I just told him he made a good choice and left it at that. I'm proud of him.

it is a BFD!

I had braced myself to see the Romney circle filled in, but he chose the President.

It was neat.

It was also a good reminder to me to not write anyone off, dismiss them, or (as per fleur's post) turn our backs on our Dem brothers and sisters who are struggling for change in the deep red states.

And I helped one of our residents vote absentee for Obama last week. It was thrilling when he just came out with it, "I'm voting for Obama, I don't like that Mitt guy". Turns out he voted the same in 2008. I was shocked but it was a moment that gave me hope here I the midst of red country (Alabama).

He is a lifelong republican but has not voted for a repub since reagans first term. He wants to, he really does, but reagan,bush1,bush2,rmoney? He has more intelligence than that. I guess one would call him an Eisenhower republican.
He may as well register Democrat at this point.

As another life long Republican I also support Obama. Character counts, and as I outline in my website Mitt's character is not worthy of his being president. I may disagree with Obama on policy, but I can not question his character.

These personal stories.

That's why I LOVE Democratic Underground.

Romney's just that bad.
Thank your dad for me, GallopingGhost.

Poor little thing. We respect the value of everyone's vote, unlike those who support gop efforts to weave disenfranchisement back into our society.

We need a few Republicans who can think on our side of the vote this year.

Sorry for your loss. Are you saying that you have been voting Democrat ever since your father passed, or did your father's voting continue with a change of party?

my husband said: "I voted early, I'm a registered Republican, and I voted for Obama and a straight Dem ticket. We're not all stupid, you know." Of course I know, I wouldn't be married to a stupid man.

My 86 year old dad said he was taking a cane to vote even though he doesn't always need it...it's just in case someone tries to challenge his right to vote. LOL

He and my mom left the Republican party in 2008 and voted for Obama/Biden.
