2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCould Sandy become Romney's "Lehman" moment?
In 2008, McCain effectively disqualified himself from the presidency by completely misjudging a great national crisis. He infamously stated that the fundamentals of the American economy were strong just as the Great Recession was hitting.
Could Sandy be the same national emergency that exposes Romney's lack of judgment and qualifications? Will more people take note of his past comments on FEMA, not to mention his shoestring budget?
With political campaigns being forcibly suspended, and all chatter focused on Sandy, I don't think it's inconceivable that Romney's plans for FEMA become a dominant headline in the next week.

(801 posts)that Romney if he's elected might very well leave victims on the east coast in the lurch while he negotiates to have Fema funding cut off. Remember it will be well into next year that people still need assistance and relief. Romeny will either delay it with his shenanigans or eliminate federal help altogether!

(31,817 posts)The problem is the people who will pay attention and be cognizant of this as a possibility . . . We live in states that are going blue. Will liberals inTN, MO, Iowa show up for Obama? Yep. But I fear there may not be enough. And the rest - well they think we are godless and deserve it.

(6,665 posts)Romney will no doubt ride some coat tails. And look for hour to hour coverage about the Mormon church's relief efforts.
