Are Americans Really This Dumb?

I can't believe that the voters would really reward the Republican party after they destroyed this country when they were in power, and since then they have tried everything possible to keep this country down so Pres Obama doesn't look good.

No matter how much the GOP screws up, they will always get a huge chunk of the vote because many many many white voters in America believe that the Democrats are too friendly to minorities.

Now throw in a black president like Obama into the mix, and pretty much anything that the GOP does or has done will be forgiven, including Bush-Cheney.

we hate him comments. That is why they are voting Romney. Down deep in the foundation of the souls of these people they are voting in the Republican again because they either are wealthy and greedy and don't want to pay their fair share or they are not too happy with a half black President. DISGUSTING BS!!! STUPID IGNORANT PREJUDICED PEOPLE..I seen much of this on my Facebook. Pathetic! Or they just vote Republican and it does not matter who they vote for because they are low information voters...but the main reason I believe is racism and those that put it out there for those to eat it up and vote out of hate is why they would vote for the same crap again...so sad...so deliberate and so dispicable.

The myriad ways that Republicans screwed this country during the Bush years is ancient history to them.

Sad, but true. I long ago stopped considering voting for Repubs. Can't, won't, probably for what life I have left.

I still marvel at comments about shit that was decidedly mainstream and centrist a few short years ago being labeled far left, commie, socialist......whatever the latest buzz-word for them is.

not just politics. Think about it, I bet the dumbest kid in your class, throughout your educational experience, was usually the most vocal.
I still remember being totally frustrated by the idiots arguing with the professors...my son complained all through law school about people trying to make a point in class, when they didn't have a clue as to the real issue. I have always thought that the loud mouths use their vocal cords in an attempt to disguise their ignorance.

One thing is for certain, we are fed fantasy versions of reality by those who want us to believe that we are stupid.
I suspect that Americans are not really as dumb as the last few elections have suggested. We have been given the choice candidates of the uber-class through stolen elections and the propaganda of their PR groups, as presented by the evening news.

These type of people were brainwashed at early age that democrats are lazy tax sucking low life's. They only watch republican filtered news and deny any wrong doing on their party. Then there are totally uninformed voters that decide according to friends, spouse and coworkers. Hard to beleive that any one would vote against their own best interest, but they do.

We are all subject to some degree of brainwashing.
We are immersed in a jingoistic society, whose guiding myth is that America is "Exceptional", which makes questioning the validity of a presidential election or candidate a difficult case to make.
Who wants to admit that a lying, avaricious man with no moral compass, could be an acceptable candidate in the presidential contest? We are a first world, no The First World, nation. The idea that Romney is totally unacceptable as a candidate is rejected by most Americans simply because he is the candidate.
Those who question our "goodness" might as well admit to being probed in a space-craft. Though our constitution gives us the right to speak freely our culture makes discussing systemic problems difficult.
Besides it is always hard to convince others that they have accepted falsehood as truth. Trying usually backfires and makes them believe the falsehood more strongly.
Cognitive Dissonance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance and the Dunning-Kruger Effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect work against Americans waking from their stupor any time soon.

Plus tens of millions of people watch Fox Noise. That is another billion worth of free ads.

If the Republicans used their advertising budget for the tobacco industry, there would be more smokers in Boston than in Beirut.

Yes, it is disheartening to see people vote against their own best interest. I think there are many people who just do not follow the issues closely and depend on talking heads to tell them what to think. They listen to sound bites. And frankly, they are more interested in the latest antics that Honey Boo Boo child has done or who got booted off of Dancing with the Stars. When I was working, the lunch room talk almost always was over similar subjects, even during election year 2008. It was all women and there were plenty of issues we should have been discussing instead of who we thought should get to stay or go on DWTS.

We live in a complex world and the issues require careful thought and analysis. Critical thinking skills are needed to separate core issues versus hype. Lots of people don't have that, don't realize the need for it and wouldn't know what to do with it if they did find it. If there was one thing I learned in college (and I thank my professors for drumming this in my head) it is that most issues are complex and easy answers can be dangerous and too simplistic.

When you have a media determined to boil these important issues down to sound bites and 30 second ads (for sale, I might add), you get an electorate with a short attention span and no patience for thought and reason. It's sad really when you think that our means of dispersing lots of information to many people could be used for real good. Instead it has been corrupted by money. Surprise, surprise.

Sat Oct 27, 2012, 06:01 PM

by scaring them half to death with all the things he'd do to change this country. Socialist, communist, take away your guns, sell the country out to China,he's a Muslim, not one of "us", anything to scare people into not voting for him.

None of that happened. But they are still not smart enough to see or hear it. If you ask why he didn't do it, they usually have some canned answer. He was waiting until his second term. Or some such nonsense. It begs the question of why would he WAIT to do his dirty deeds? Why have to risk not getting elected? If he had such a plan wouldn't it make sense to do while he had the chance?

Now they are told he will REALLY pull it off this time because he doesn't have to worry about re-election. DOH! Sometimes I think they have no brain cells left to rub together any more. They just let Fox or Glenn Beck do all the thinking for them. No wonder what they say makes no sense.
