2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRSCC pulling out of Maine as moderate/progressive indy Angus King is poised to win. (YES !)
According to National Journal - Hotline On Call, the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee is cashing it in and pulling out of Maine. They tried to bash King and prop up the Paul LePage (he's the teabag gov) stooge and Sec. of State Charlie Summers. They spent two million bucks trying to do it with negative ads. The TeaSCUM PACS also attacked King in a big way. The DSCC came in and ran attack ads against Summers, and King fought back on his own. King will win more than 50% of the vote. The Dem in this race, Cynthia Dill, has not been able to poll above 14%. Most D's are backing King because she just can not win this, and King is pretty darn progressive on most issues and he is a very popular former gov. We could not allow Summers to split the vote and get in like his disgusting boss, Paul LePUKE LePage. King will most likely caucus with the Dems.
So, SO LONG RIGHT WINGER SCUMBAGS on this one ! You SLIMEBALLS thought you could come in to our state and buy our election but guess what, we good Mainers have given you one great big SHIT BURGER to eat as you have wasted MILLIONS of dollars. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

(13,570 posts)moderate Indy split the vote. CAN'T let that happen this time. Had to go with King because he was so popular and a true moderate to progressive on most issues.

(13,570 posts)I am very familiar with King. Voted for him before. Watched him govern for 8 years. Have seen him speak up close. He campaigned for Kerry in Maine, supported Obama last time, and is supporting Obama this time. Not sure if you're from Maine, but Dems and many moderate to progressive Indies are very comfortable with him. And it was GREAT to TAZE the RePUKES in this one and send them a nice steaming SHITBURGER. So please take your negativity elsewhere.

(3,290 posts)I happen to be a Democrat who supports the Democratic nominee. Odd that that should be considered a negative on DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND.
By the way, I happen to be the Waldo County Democratic chair, so your lectures might best be directed elsewhere.

(13,570 posts)There are times when reality needs to prevail over purity. It does not make one less of a Democrat. This is a multi-candidate race, and the absolute fact is that Dill is not polling above a piddley 14% of the vote and is barely polling anywhere outside of deep southern Maine. Sorry, but on this one you are totally wasting your vote and helping Summers. It is what it is. And yes, you are being negative and being far too dismissive of King, writing him off as conservative leaner rather than a progressive leaner which is simply not the case. He leans more progressive than conservative overall. He is a good thoughful highly intelligent man, a true moderate to progressive on most issues. Your vote, too, for Libby Mitchell last time simply helped stick us with LeBUFFOON. I thank you for your service to the party. I have served it BIGTIME too. But there are occasional races where reality must trump blind purity. It is called living in the real world which is why I amd many thousands of Dems, including many very prominent leaders in the party at various levels, are supporting King.

(3,290 posts)King is only ahead because so many Democrats support him. If they had held firm for our candidate, it would be a different matter. And, let's not forget, if not for Angus, we would probably be watching Chellie Pingree coast to a landslide victory right now.
I understand strategic voting, and respect those who engage in it. In 2010, we made sure we were accommodating to those volunteers who supported other Dems, but were backing Cutler in order to stop LePage. If Angus unequivocally states that he will not caucus with the GOP, I may consider joining those who back him. As long as he continues to float the possibility of voting for Mitch McConnell, I will not.
What has happened, though, is not what I consider strategic voting. All I asked of our committee members was that they give Cynthia a fair hearing before they made a decision who to back. Some did, most did not. That's not the same thing as making a calculated choice, that's just throwing someone under the bus. Cynthia won that primary fair and square. I don't think that earns her anyone's support, but I think it ought to earn her more respect that she has received.

(14,881 posts)for Gov. 38%. For that election, I waited until election day. At 20% the dem candidate clearly had zero chance, so I voted for Cutler and held my breath.
Thank goodness the realists got the message this time around and are preventing a Senator 38%!
I voted a straight line ticket for dem last week....except for the senate vote. At 14% with 2 weeks to go, the dem candidate has zero chance of winning, but a real chance of sticking us with another nightmare.
In 2 years I will do the same. If the dems present a candidate for gov who can make a serious run, I will support that candidate. But I will vote for Cutler before I will vote for anybody who isn't at least neck and neck at this point, if that's what it takes to get rid of our wonderful (not) Gov.
And when he's gone I just may celebrate with some fireworks. Just another of his great gifts!

(3,290 posts)In fact, I worked so hard on that election that I had a fucking heart attack.
We have come to a sad situation when a loyal DEMOCRAT gets attacked for supporting the DEMOCRATIC candidate on DEMOCRATIC underground.

(14,881 posts)and I am very sorry that you ended up sick over it. Please rest and take care of yourself.
I don't think attacking Angus King at this point is helpful. I doubt he is Lieberman with a mustache. Lieberman is not just not a true democrat; he is a traitor to the US who would use our wealth and military to support Israel to our ongoing detriment and risk here. I mean that; we are talking about a country that is able to give it's entire country access to healthcare in large part thanks to our subsidies. Even as US citizens die for lack of healthcare every day.
The reality is that the dem candidate is at 14%. There is a reason our well known, top tier people chose not to run for this seat. If the candidate was neck and neck, that would be one thing. But that is not even close to the situation.
There are times when we all need to put our state and our country ahead of our party. Personally, I believe this is one of them. The teapartiers are incredibly naive and foolish. Unbelievably so, yet my own sister is one and I know how really, really bad they are.

Waiting for the day when we can give Gov 38% the boot as well!!!!
