2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs it time to start purging members who won't fall in line?
This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Goblinmonger (a host of the 2016 Postmortem forum).
Now that Hillary is the presumptive nominee and the media now presenting Bernie as a failed candidate should DU start purging the members who declare they are leaving the Democratic Party for either the elitist green party or independents? Add to the fact some openly state they will NEVER vote for Clinton. Thats fine and that is your right, but on this message board we support DEMOCRATS. Not a particular ideological brand.

(1,558 posts)...that a free and open exchange of ideas benefits everyone?
I've learned a lot in the past few weeks that I have been here and appreciate all the input, whether I agree with it or not.
This world has little enough to offer the regular people in terms of a voice, people should feel proud to be part of an honest debate that gives all sides a voice.
When I am posting, I never forget that I am on virtual 'private property' and make every attempt to be civil and honorable.
But squashing opinion seems wrong, especially since many states still have not voted.

(1,729 posts)...Which is why the constant bullying, silencing and, more than anything, alert stalking on the part of Sanders supporters on this site have put the word fascism into my head a number of times.
However, the professed purpose of this site is to elect Democrats. Ridding it of people after the nominee is chosen who do nothing but essentially support the other side's candidate with their vitriol is not fascist. It's simply staying on topic. If all someone came here to do was talk about knitting, would deleting them be fascism? No. It would be keeping the site to its expressed purpose and electing Democrats.

(1,729 posts)I think they should ban people who say we shouldn't support Hillary after she gets the nomination. There are many who support Sanders who will flip for Hillary in the General just as most Hillary folks would flip the other way if the situation is reversed.
SpareribSP
(325 posts)But I think it's important to listen to people who feel betrayed on ideology, and see if they can be brought into the fold.
nolawarlock
(1,729 posts)And the vast majority of blind hatred I've seen on this site is from the Sanders camp they blindly hate Hillary enough to only accept a reality where he is the candidate. I don't see any Hillary supporters taking that stance. We know how to compromise.
Either way, once the focus of this site goes to electing the party nominee in the general, anything posted here That makes it harder for her to win becomes off topic. It's nothing to do with hate and everything to do with distraction.

(30,481 posts)We are users of this board. Even when the rules here change one would have to want to be purged. There are so many great targets that they would literally have to want to be kicked off. I really don't want to see a mass exodus. There are some members here I lost some respect for over these primaries, as I have lost some respect from them. After the primaries a lot of that respect will be gained back as our intellect makes its way back to the screen. There are some great writers here and some of them aren't really big on me right now. I have enjoyed a lot of their work over the years.

(24,010 posts)...the Democratic Party voting rolls, by the NY Democratic Party, in the town where Bernie Sanders was born, on suspicion that they were poor?
Do you know how much that H arrow to the right disgusts old DUers like me? Go ahead and purge me, you punk! I don't have that long to live anyway. I've been a Democrat for 50+ years, and a person for 70. I canvassed for JFK at age 16! And I know how much that kind of loyalty doesn't matter to Clinton and her bots. She can go buy all the votes she needs elsewhere, using her Clinton Foundation slush fund.
I am also a woman. And I say there couldn't be a worse example of feminism on the face of Mother Earth, than Hillary Clinton, whose decisions have led to the rapes, murders, and/or cruel displacement of millions of women in Honduras, Libya, Syria and Iraq. She even laughed about the bayonet rape and murder of one of her "regime change" targets, right on camera. "We came, we saw, he died! ha-ha-ha!" THAT'S feminism? That's what I've struggled for and supported all my life? THAT's the Democratic Party that I've been loyal to all my life?
DO IT! TURN ME IN! Here's my arm. Tattoo it! Shove this old witch in the oven! Do you realize where your mind is leading you? Do you REALIZE?!
Or just go away to a cave somewhere and do some serious soul-searching. You need to.

(369 posts)If you're a Democrat you would support the Democratic nominee its really as simple as that.
And are you being seriously about her logo?
Peace Patriot
(24,010 posts)...except perhaps about her buying votes with her slush fund. She's bought some votes by buying off leaders of groups or public officials, but not all votes. Some people have voted for her freely.
As for the logo, I've come to associate it with snarky posts--posts merely intended to discourage and rag on people--fascist posts like this OP threatening to purge people, and the Clinton policies that I abhor.
The logo, for me, alerts me to posts I don't want to read, because they usually have no information content and are just emotional pickaxes, and the logo reminds of the right turn that Clinton will make, after the primaries, if she's still in the game, and all the betrayals that good people will suffer, when her promises are broken (for instance, on TPP, or the minimum wage), and/or the policies that people have projected into her, and that aren't there--such as protection of full abortion rights--that will vanish in thin air.
Also, there are Clinton policies that most people don't have a clue about--such as Honduras, Libya, Syria and Iraq--and who her advisers are: incredibly, Henry Kissinger (mass murderer of millions in Southeast Asia, and architect of fascist coups in LatAm) and Robert Kagan (chief neo-con, author of Bush, Cheney & Rumsfeld's blueprint for U.S. military occupation of the ME--"The Project for a New American Century" . I think most people have a vague notion that Clinton will be strong but not a warmonger. I think they are in for dreadful disillusionment.
The right turn arrow is ominous, to my mind. I doubt that whoever created it meant it that way. But now that we have a similar Bernie logo with the arrow pointing LEFT, I think of it like that. It wouldn't matter if there wasn't a whole lot of truth in Clinton's rightwing turn to come.

(2,125 posts)I'm a woman and also appalled at what a poor excuse of a woman and human being HRC is.
There is no worse fate, IMO than to have bombs falling from the sky on your country,
your home, just because somebody bigger than you doesn't like someone you probably
don't like either but have to power to change. Women and children fare much worse than
men during war but HRC wants more and more of it. Enough! Ya Basta!
I wish you well.

(10,565 posts)I too am a lifelong Democrat Even longer than you. I marched in Atlanta at the inauguration of Lester Maddox carrying a coffin labeled "The Death of the New South" People like me were not popular in the South then. Your ridiculous charges against Hillary would be akin to me accusing Bernie of all the gun deaths in the last 20 years. That's ridiculous as well. Very sad to get to this part of life and be so full of bitterness and anger. Bernie is an anger and envy merchant. Follow him at your peril off the cliff to nowhere. He has no plan. No solutions. No plan to win back Congress or the state houses. No raising money for down ballot Democrsts. His revolution is a bumper sticker slogan.

(2,493 posts)The party platform and down-ticket candidates I think that should be sufficient, even if you don't support a nominee who is disliked by the majority of Americans and under ACTIVE INVESTIGATION by the FBI and may be indicted. I'll vote for Hills if she's the nominee, even though she's a terrible candidate and it is shocking that Democrats couldn't anoint someone who actually represents party ideals.
