2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis may be anecdotal, but among my millennial friends, SNL had a big influence on changing minds
We were watching the 'yadda, yadda' skit together on Sunday (we have better things to do Saturday nights!), and I saw it shift 3 Sanders supporters - although admittedly weak ones (they just liked his 'vibe') - to Hillary. They realized that he was a cute old guy, and liked his ideas, but the skit hit home on the fact that he has never articulated any plans.
I've seen many people post that video on Facebook in the past couple of days, and it has received lots of comments, almost all pro-Hillary. Remember, I'm a college student, and most of my friends are my age, so this is pretty big for a group that is supposed to be strongly Sanders.

(6,551 posts)Bernie is a brilliant advocate and has been for decades. But he lacks the interest and skills to achieve the change he so desperately wants. It takes more than the talent to energize millions; a president must also get the job done.
I think tonight marks the end of Bernie's campaign though he will continue to campaign. He's had an impressive run.

(7,413 posts)your candidate is one of the most despised people in politics. You really think she will be elected in November?

(6,551 posts)Took, she will have well over 2.5 million voters more than Bernie by tomorrow morning. One of the most despised? I think that's an exaggeration. But we'll see. July is still a long way away.
But as hard as it is to take, Bernie's run is over. The big question now is how will he use his considerable power to truly affect the Democratic party? Because he has millions of people like you behind him. That is POWER.

(7,413 posts)I remember back in the day when Oprah had on an "introductory" type video of George and Laura Bush.
Up to this point most people were very skeptical of him - but what did we see, introduced by America's beloved hostess - a loving couple, hand in hand, walking about the ranch, family anecdotes about him bringing her coffee in bed every day (!) sweet photos of the twins.
He lets her sleep late - then photos of the infant twins all bundled up in their swaddling clothes, and he would give Laura one (with her coffee!!) and he would have the other and they would cuddle them in bed, etc.
I swear after that video went nationwide people changed their mind about "Shrub" - he wasn't a monster after all, he was a loving and caring husband and father.
Personally, although I am a Seinfeld fan and have all the seasons, I could never stand Larry David alone. He seems to me to be a very nasty person. I think he may have thought that Bernie was a threat to his lifestyle and $$$.

(1,446 posts)which is exactly why so much effort is made at putting out effective campaign ads, spinning every move a candidate makes and having famous surrogates give endorsements. Bottom line is that many people are open to evaluate new information, sometimes it is factual (even if presented in a satirical manner), and other times not.

(35,307 posts)They're easily manipulated, the question is, By whom?
Those dedicated Sanders voters who are easily swayed were only probably only dedicated Sanders voters for similar reasons, whatever we/you/they/etc. may want to believe.

(290 posts)But I also don't find the two actors particularly relatable. Oh well, good to know at least.
