"Why were you late with my present?"

If someone gives you a present, I was always taught that you NEVER, EVER point out that the person was late with it. If they say, "Sorry this is late," then you smile graciously and say, "It's not a problem. Thank you for the gift."

Hillary's "joking" that BdB was late with her endorsement strikes me as tacky.

He didn't owe her a thing, and for her to complain about the timing of a gift is just bad manners and speaks to her perceived sense of entitlement.

I agree, it was very rude of Hillary Clinton to shame Bill DeBlasio for being late on endorsing her. GeorgiaPeanuts Apr 2016 #4

Did your tutelage make any allowances for joking among friends?

Frankly I don't think it's appropriate for people to be making jokes at a comedic event either. I heard, tittering, gigles, even some outright guffawing. Thank goodness for this conveniently placed fainting couch.

she had to be rude in order to set up the racist joke, which the black guy dressed like a lawn jockey(?!) could then oh-so-predictably object to, and after a side-long "uh-oh" look, Hillary could then patronizingly explain to him that HE misunderstood.

Har-de-har-har!!!!

you know the Broadway musical no one can buy a ticket for because it is sold out for months and months. He wasn't dressed like a lawn jockey he was dressed like a Colonist.

a horribly misguided, purely awful attempt at being funny. Whoever actually wrote that bit should be publicly outed as the worst comedy writer in recent history so we all know who he/she is for our own sake. The "characters" in this "comedy" were equally bad at being even close to funny.

It was a total dumpster fire on every conceivable level, complete with a pie-in-your-own-face moment of racism! Nicely done! It's one of those fuck-ups that you probably could not honestly fuck up as badly if you truly tried to make this debacle the biggest disaster imaginable.

But "why were you late with my present" wasn't some window into the soul of HRC per se - it was just really, really horrible comedy.
