Let's be absolutely clear: Bernie never stated he was invited by the Pope, he said he received an

invitation from the Vatican:

And as reported by the BBC he said he didn't know whether he'd meet the Pope.:

Mr Sanders said he was not sure whether he would meet the Pope but he was a big fan of the pontiff.

a personal invitation from the Pope.

People sure are desparate to downplay the excellent news that Sanders is getting international attention for his views on income inequality, climate change, etc.

It's interesting to see all the detractors try to make the invitation not legitimate in a variety of ways.
