2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThere is absolutely nothing illegal with having offshore bank accounts
As long as you pay all taxes due and you declare them on FATCA and FBAR annually.
That's what I do. My taxes are done by a reputable accountant (E&Y) and I declare all my offshore bank accounts annually.

(17,469 posts)if there weren't a connection, given the wide ranging reach of the Clintons, their friends and their foundation.
And as long as all of the connections were in compliance with the law, there should be no legal problems. Unfortunately, you mention "off-shore" accounts and many people think "rich people pulling a fast one".
They are, but as long as it is a "legal fast one", the law doesn't care.
The court of public opinion, however...

Many of the wealthy are relocating their money for the next areas of national growth.
They know that the US economy is not going to grow as aggressively as certain foreign markets...
So, they have effectively foresaken the US economy!

(11,076 posts)..how many times has the US defended these and other tax free assets? We know the wars for oil were financed on the backs of the people. The rich don't want to pay for defense but they sure like to be 'defended'.

(11,076 posts).....not so cool. When you run for Pres I suggest you dump your offshore accounts first, until then, by all means if it's legal knock yourself out. Legal vs moral are two different things.

"My taxes are done by a reputable accountant...and I declare all my offshore bank accounts annually." again.... wasn't too long ago that what 'you do' would have been illegal so there is that...
Either you invest in US and it's people and society or you don't, you've chosen the latter

(3,040 posts)Mitt Romney lost. Most Americans are worried about not getting over drawn in their domestic bank accounts. Should it come out that Hillary has offshore bank accounts, she will not only have a hard time winning the nomination, it will be VERY hard to defeat her GOP opponent.
Even as a Sanders supporters, I hope to God that Hillary doesn't have any that have not been disclosed because I don't want a Republican president.

... After years of lambasting other countries for helping rich Americans hide their money offshore, the U.S. is emerging as a leading tax and secrecy haven for rich foreigners. By resisting new global disclosure standards, the U.S. is creating a hot new market, becoming the go-to place to stash foreign wealth. Everyone from London lawyers to Swiss trust companies is getting in on the act, helping the worlds rich move accounts from places like the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands to Nevada, Wyoming, and South Dakota.
How ironicno, how perversethat the USA, which has been so sanctimonious in its condemnation of Swiss banks, has become the banking secrecy jurisdiction du jour, wrote Peter A. Cotorceanu, a lawyer at Anaford AG, a Zurich law firm, in a recent legal journal. That giant sucking sound you hear? It is the sound of money rushing to the USA.
Rothschild, the centuries-old European financial institution, has opened a trust company in Reno, Nev., a few blocks from the Harrahs and Eldorado casinos. It is now moving the fortunes of wealthy foreign clients out of offshore havens such as Bermuda, subject to the new international disclosure requirements, and into Rothschild-run trusts in Nevada, which are exempt...

There are way too many shady deals, just ask the former Speaker of the House... but I got a feeling the Clintons will not be in that list. Now some their friends... might.
