http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-04-29/clinton-foundation-failed-to-disclose-1-100-foreign-donationsHillary Clintons presidential run is prompting new scrutiny of the Clintons financial and charitable affairssomething thats already proved problematic for the Democratic front runner, given how closely these two worlds overlap.
Last week, the New York Times examined Bill Clintons relationship with a Canadian mining financier, Frank Giustra, who has donated millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation and sits on its board.
Clinton, the story suggests, helped Giustras company secure a lucrative uranium-mining deal in Kazakhstan and in return received a flow of cash to the Clinton Foundation, including previously undisclosed donations from the companys chairman totaling $2.35 million.
Giustra strenuously objects to how he was portrayed. Its frustrating, he says. And because the donations came in through the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership (CGEP)a Canadian affiliate of the Clinton Foundation he established with the former presidenthe feels doubly implicated by the insinuation of a dark alliance.
Were not trying to hide anything, he says.
There are in fact 1,100 undisclosed donors to the Clinton Foundation, Giustra says, most of them non-U.S. residents who donated to CGEP. All of the money that was raised by CGEP flowed through to the Clinton Foundationevery pennyand went to the [charitable] initiatives we identified, he says.
The reason this is a politically explosive revelation is because the Clinton Foundation promised to disclose its donors as a condition of Hillary Clinton becoming secretary of state.
Shortly after Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, the Clinton Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Obama White House agreeing to reveal its contributors every year. The agreement stipulates that the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (as the charity was then known) is part of the Clinton Foundation and must follow the same protocols.
It hasnt.

New York Times story claimed Bill Clinton tried to deny meeting linked to 'Clinton Cash' scandals
A Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter claims that former President Bill Clinton falsely denied hosting a meeting with Kazakh officials when she tried to write a story that involved his foundation several years ago.
Jo Becker, who works on the newspaper's investigative desk, said Clinton only confirmed the meeting took place after she informed him there were photographs.
That article revisited some of her earlier reporting and included information from the upcoming book "Clinton Cash," which is generating widespread headlines amid a flurry of reports suggesting it will raise serious questions about Clinton's family foundation.
The donor in question is Canadian mining executive Frank Giustra, a longtime friend of the former president who has given tens of millions to the Clinton Foundation in the past few years. (A couple of hours after the NYT story was published, Giustra issued a defiant statement. We've included that below.)
Becker initially wrote about the February 2007 meeting between Clinton, Giustra, and executives from the state-owned nuclear company Kazatomprom in 2008. The gathering took place at Clinton's home in Chappaqua, New York.
"When I first contacted both the Clinton foundation Mr. Clinton's spokesman and Mr. Giustra, they denied any such meeting ever took place," Becker recalled in footage aired by Fox News on Thursday.
However, Becker said Clinton and Giustra both changed their stories after she confronted them with evidence to the contrary.
"And then when we told them, 'Well we already talked to the head of Kazatomprom, who not only told us all about the meeting, but actually has a picture of him and Bill at the home in Chappaqua, and that he proudly displayed on his office wall.' They then acknowledged that yes, the meeting had taken place," Becker continued in the television interview.

(5,208 posts)Subsequent to failure in their attempt to overturn a uranium mining ban for the area near the Grand Canyon, groups representing uranium mining interests are appealing. What part of no do these bullies not understand? This is one reason that the US government does so many wrong things, for if they do the right thing they get sued and big corporations have deep pockets. A list of companies represented by one of the Mining Associations taking legal action against the US government, i.e. taxpayers, to overturn the uranium mining ban is at the bottom of the page, to facilitate boycott of those who waste taxpayer monies on abusive lawsuits, which in this case also involves degradation of the environment, (at every stage of the uranium cycle). They include Uranium One, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Russian government owned Rosatom, who is still mining uranium in the USA, untouched by sanctions.

(10,279 posts)CCWM. The donors are "unknown". The CCWM rotates, gyrates, spins, and dries the money -- destroying the source tags. Next, the "clean" money pops out in the Clintons' bag in the USA. No knows how this happens, only that the money was inserted into the machine by a Canadian affiliate of the Clinton Foundation. What a marvelous machine. I was impressed with the Romney machine, but the CCWM seems so much freer of actual human hands and paper work -- and those pesky fees seem to be eliminated, generating no paper trail. "We're not trying to hide anything," he (Guistra) says. I have an idea for the IRS. Make the Clinton Foundation send the money back to Canada, have the source tags reattached, and send it to the Clinton Foundation through the banks so the IRS can log the sources. Just like what would happen to me if I attempted to transfer large sums of money across the US-CAN border.

The Best Way to Vilify Hillary Clinton? G.O.P. Spends Heavily to Test It
In rooms like this one around the country, an expensive and sophisticated effort is underway to test and refine the most potent lines of attack against Mrs. Clinton, and, ultimately, to persuade Americans that she does not deserve their votes. While the general election is 16 months away, Republican groups are eager to begin building a powerful case against the woman they believe will be the Democratic nominee, and to infuse the public consciousness with those messages.
...
One problem in developing negative messages about Mrs. Clinton, Republican strategists have found, is that she and her husband have survived so many controversies by dismissing them as partisan attacks. So the Republican organizations are seeking to develop lines of attack that resonate more deeply or raise unsettling questions about Mrs. Clintons character.
...
The ads highlighted Mrs. Clintons deleting of emails from her private account, tried to tie her to President Obama, portrayed her as distant from middle-class Americans and sought to persuade women that they do not need to support her because of her gender.
But many, essentially, struck the same theme, depicting Mrs. Clinton as untrustworthy, an image that even Democrats supporting the Clinton campaign acknowledge is a weakness. About 57 percent of Americans do not believe Mrs. Clinton is honest and trustworthy, according to a CNN poll released June 2.
Shes got an open wound, and part of our job is to pour salt in it, said Glen Bolger, a co-founder of Public Opinion Strategies, the Republican polling firm that conducted the focus groups.
...
Pretty long article laying out what they'd been doing for 8-9 months to nail Hillary.
That article is dated July 11, 2015. They've been at this a long time. By the time the election rolls around they'll have spent two years doing "opposition research on" Hillary.
The GOP will be launching the most prepared and well financed attack on a candidate in US history if Hillary gets the nomination.
If Bernie gets the nomination, all that Rovian effort goes up in smoke.
