2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWith a Trump presidency at stake, white liberals really need to check their privilege.
So, can someone please tell that to actress Susan Sarandon? Because Im not sure if she knows this or not, but Donald Trump will be the GOP nominee. He has the support of 45 percent of the Republican base, and has won New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, three states that have predicted the eventual Republican nominee for years.
*
But for the rest of us, possibly letting a fascist maniac into the White House out of spite is a huge slap in the face. While conservatives openly flaunt their selfish privilege with their banker friends and Koch backers, liberals like Sarandon take a vindictive, passive approach to the issue at hand.
I want every progressive to repeat after me: Hillary Clinton is nowhere near as bad as Donald Trump. While Sarandon and her purist minions decide to see what happens, theres millions of Muslims and immigrants who will literally be tagged, monitored, and in some cases, sent back to country they came from, thus splitting up their families.

(14,177 posts)It's a very condescending and preachy op. I have seen all the down punching that is done here. And this is another example of that. I see very few posts as to why anyone should vote for Hillary rather than against Donald.

So there's definitely truth to the white privilege aspect of it. Me as a gay Black/Latino male I don't have that privilege.

First jury I've seen on this site that went the right way. Interesting. I was considering every jury is stacked for Hillary. I've seen too many hides for far less.

(1,558 posts)I am a generally conservative person who has decided that Bernie is the only sane candidate on either side.
The following line...
While conservatives openly flaunt their selfish privilege with their banker friends and Koch backers.
...gets me confused. I do know the ladies down at the local bank, but I don't know anyone named Koch.
Can someone help me here?

(1,054 posts)I think you are right about Bernie.
You probably don't want to pass around the c word because we have a lot of Hillary Clinton supporters that have a serious problem with tolerance. They will easily flag you and you'll be tried by a politicized jury on this site that nearly always goes the wrong way.
Just warning to be watchful of that. Hope you stick around!

(1,558 posts)I cannot help it that I am...
- Fiscally conservative, in that my wife and I have had a paid-off house since our mid 40's. Etc.
- Morally conservative, in that I have been married to the same woman for 25 years. Etc.
- Politically conservative in that I support the constitution, and I have the training and background to defend it with more than words. Etc.
- I also support environmental activism, women's choice, LGBT issues, educational opportunity for all economic levels and equal access to health care. Etc.
If any Hillary supporters have a problem with the above, Bring it on.
Oh, and I support Bernie.

(2,145 posts)But he's in the pockets of the puppeteers - the Kochs and his ilk. So they feed you the propaganda and you all fall for it.
Bernie and Trump - the two self-funders. They really, really scare the big money corporatists. And you all fall for it. As McLuhan said so long ago, "the medium is the message."

(708 posts)As a 40 year old I enjoy hearing his lifetime of experience. And he is about as colorful as they come.
I generally avoid conversations about politics with him because of his right-wing news sources.
He's a Republican.
But he repeated what I heard recently from another Republican friend.
Their candidates are all messed up, and they are worried about losing to Clinton.
They really don't like Hillary Clinton.
But they like Bernie Sanders!
And he asked me for more information.
We agreed that the two things the government should provide its people are education and health care, because these are the two things that help people do what is best for society as a whole.
After that they can live in a cardboard box if they want.
If we can win this battle, I think we will have won the war.

(6,409 posts)I thought Sarandon said there was a possibility she might not vote for Clinton. The same goes for me. There is also a possibility I won't vote for Bernie if he is the Democratic nominee. The point being, if we put our faith in a candidate, and that candidate lets us down, we feel betrayed, resentful, etc. I think Sarandon stopped short of the Bernie or Bust thing, did she not?

I'm going to write in my dog's name on the Republican ballot and go home and pray for Bernie.

I'll decide by the primaries.
