2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIgnore the procedural part of the story
here it is... AZ in all it's glory, with links to local news... (And as usual our procedural was the dull percentages and total of delegates)
The county reduced polling places from 200 in 2012 to 60. This led to very long lines, upwards of 5 hours. According to US Uncut, some people lost all day in an attempt to vote. There were also problems, reportedly, with people who believed they were registered as Democrats, but the computers said otherwise. Two people who were not able to vote where the local Chapter President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and a lawyer.
Governor Doug Doucey also called these lines unacceptable, and he wants to have open primaries.
There was also voter suppression in latino neighborhoods. Democrats warned that this was going to happen, and now this was proven correct.
http://reportingsandiego.com/2016/03/23/state-of-the-race-after-western-tuesday-vote/
And I do like partly the governor's solution. Though I am willing to bet neither party will like it. I have plenty of links there.

(4,713 posts)It's the hyperbolic bullshit I'm referring to & anyone that uses USuncut as their source is no better than what they claim the MSM does.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)Actually Channel 12 is far worst. What they did was a FUCKING SUMMARY of what the local media found out. But if you wish to think it is propaganda, so be it. So did the president of the NAACP lied when she said she was not allowed to vote? What about a lawyer? DID THE FUCKING GOVERNOR LIE? You are looking damn silly at this point. It is adorable actually.
giftedgirl77
(4,713 posts)I'm supposed to go dig around to find out if it fits your narrative? That's just lazy journalism right there, shit might as well use Wikipedia as a reliable source as well. All of the people that are in a position to try & rectify this situation are already aware of it so compounding the situation with CTs & hyperbole doesn't help anything & further damages any credibility.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)at the article... try reading the article and not jumping on just one source you hate.
I give up. I hope the failure of democracy is so wide that you will be able to notice... I really do. On the other hand, as long as your "candidate" wins in a "pretend election" you do not give two shits about it. This is sad, but whatever.
I truly hope you do notice, because it is dying... not that you give two fucks about it

(4,713 posts)reference posted in the article is of a piece of shit biased source. So once again, it wasn't until you got called on your shitty source did you decide to post additional links & some of those links are just another scavenger hunt.

(4,713 posts)but using biased sources typically gets one labeled as whatever bandwagon they have jumped on. It's really no better than using judicalwatch or beitbart, you know their opinions are going to lack focus.

giftedgirl77
(4,713 posts)The huge difference is they aren't yelling that it was only BS supporters that were effected. It was everyone attempting to vote in the democratic primary. This was a giant issue that needs to be addressed once and for all but it's most certainly not a Sanders or HRC issue, it's a fuck up at the state & more importantly local level.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)so I also added pro publica, is that a shit source too?
You have no interest. This is a smoke screen to avoid talking about voting suppression. It is reprehensible, So do continue with this conversation with yourself.

As for the "open primary", why should non-Democrats (i.e, republicans and independents) participate in choosing the DEMOCRATIC candidate? Ludicrous.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)or are you calling the President of the Maricopa County NAACP, has voted Dem for decades, a liar? Her experience is far from unique. And you should be concerned. regardless of who "won." As I told you earlier today, I consider US elections dirtier than Mexican Elections when I was young, at this point.
This is not a partisan issue. And the DOJ should be (I am told there will be snow in hell before that happens), involved. It is a civil rights issue. (And a dress rehearsal)
In the recent past they have had their moments as well, (2006 comes to mind)
George II
(67,782 posts)...a liar. Where did you get that from?
The fact is that yesterday had the second highest primary turnout in Arizona history! There were issues, as there are issues in just about every election in every state and locality.
Funny how when Clinton wins a primary there is voter fraud and suppression, when Sanders wins one nary a complaint.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)this could have been a contest between the man on the moon, and Santa Clauss. I give two rips who "won" or who "lost." Why? I consider this a compromised election. There were serious issues, in particular in minority areas.
This has nothing to do as far as I am concerned as to who is running. The fact that the REPUBLICAN governor has suggested OPEN PRIMARIES for BOTH PARTIEs in the state, tells the story of how serious this is. Or perhaps the governor is part of the conspiracy too. No, it is no longer Jan Brewer, she would have shocked me.
State level Ds are asking for the resignation of the Maricopa County Registrar by the way, she was responsible for cutting from 200 to 60 polling places. Did I mention Maricopa is heavily latino and Native American? Go ahead, hide your head in the sand. I could care less.

As for the "open primary", why should non-Democrats (i.e, republicans and independents) participate in choosing the DEMOCRATIC candidate? Ludicrous.
You called the head of the NAACP a liar. She has been registered DEMOCRATIC MEMBER FOR DECADES. She did not change her registration and was far from alone.
Have a good day... I do hope when democracy finally takes its final breath in this country, you will realize it. Because it is dying. and you are enabling it by hiding your head in the sand.
As to open primaries, you know you agrees with you? The California Republican party. Dems are big boys and girls and opened their primary (which increases participation and voting in June Ballot Initiatives incidentally) I applaud you for agreeing with the California Republican Party.

(36,843 posts)Some even discuss alert strategies in a childish effort to suppress whatever opinions they don't agree with. After you serve on a few juries you can definitely spot trends where it's obvious people are just alerting on everything from certain posters with the knowledge that one out of ten or twenty alerts, however ridiculous, will eventually succeed if the alert text is duplicitous enough. Some of those who have elevated that craft to an art form inevitably have it backfire on them, and then are inevitably the biggest whiners about being victims of alert stalking.

Land of Enchantment
(1,217 posts)and have not been able to verify.
Apparently there is a class action lawsuit filed against the state of Arizona for election fraud.
The amount of voter suppression Arizona voters experienced on Tuesday night may be unparalleledthe entire day of voting was a complete disaster, so much so that a class action election fraud lawsuit has been filed.
Arizonas Secretary of State has said that they will count provisional ballots by April 4. However, the likelihood of this actually occurring is minimal, considering Illinois claimed it would extend voting after experiencing election fraud but announced yesterday that it would not.
An election fraud lawsuit has been filed against Arizona, and a White House petition to investigate the voter suppression has about 55,000 signatures currently.
What has been bothering me is the switching of voter's affiliations. That aspect has smelled since the 'data breach' back in December. I wonder if there is some connection as the Sanders campaign has stated their data was hacked a week ago. If we can trust computers with our most private information (tax filing, banking, investments) then why can't we vote online?
Anyway, maybe some energized and more skilled DUers can find the alleged lawsuit and the computer experts here can figure out the switching of voters' affiliations. Thanks.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)how do you tell a Sanders supporter named Smith, from a HRC supporter named Smith? IMO this was a dress rehearsal for November, and it was so damn glaring they will have to put that back in the bottle.
That said, BOTH campaigns should demand a DOJ civil rights division investigation. And the DNC should join them.

(46,179 posts)open primaries, but how does that solve the reduction in polling places and long lines?
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)Of course 100 percent mail in ballots, like Oregon, could be one solution in the long run. But then, call me cynical, the mail would "lose" a lot of mail. I use quotation marks since it would be the state.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)No lines, I vote on my own schedule.
Usually in my pajamas, with my voting pamphlet, ballot, computer, and a cup of coffee. Then I put a stamp on it and mail it, or I drop it off in a drop box when I go to town.
Of course, if there were any suggestion of mail fraud, I'd be up in arms...as would the rest of the state. Me? Up in arms metaphorically speaking. Some of eastern Oregon? Maybe not so metaphorically.
