2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumToday's meme from Hillary's crew: Bernie is trying to STEAL the election with Superdelegates!@11!!!
Hillary has a huge lead with super delegates, party bigwigs whose vote equals 10,000 normal person votes.
Bernie would need to win some over to get the nomination.
Hilary's crew has been pushing a lame talking point all day claiming for Bernie to get some superdelegates would make him a hypocrite, or show he is trying to steal the election.
So stupid.

(708 posts)It almost seems safe to ignore it.
Hillary seems to be the one who will use SuperDelegates to push her to a win.
But then swiftboating is where you attack your opponent to minimize his greatest strength or your own greatest weakness.
I am not stealing the election, you are.
Thanks for the post.

(12,689 posts)It was his strategist that suggested that pledged delegates were not bound to vote a certain way and that they would be lobbying for delegates (seemingly both super and pledged) to switch sides. It is a severely dirty trick from the campaign that is supposed to be morally superior. All throughout the primary there has been talk that Clinton would steal the nomination with superdelegates, yet it turns out that Sanders is the one trying to steal the nomination with delegate tricks.

(32,701 posts)When the superdelegates are helpful to him, it's OK. When they're helpful to Clinton, they're undemocratic. Nowhere have I seen concern about Bernie trying to steal the election. You're projecting again.

(9,086 posts)Some would have to switch at some point for Bernie to win.
It's like calling someone a hypocrite for running in an election when they don't like the election rules.

(8,352 posts)"The people of Vermont have spoken," said Condos, who earned his superdelegate status as the vice chairman of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State.
Jerman is the vice chairman of the Vermont Democratic Party. Both Deans and Jerman said their choices do not reflect the views of the state party, which is officially neutral in the contest between Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Sen. Patrick Leahy, Gov. Peter Shumlin and former Gov. Howard Dean have all pledged to support Clinton, sparking a backlash among some people who them going against the wishes of Vermont voters. Sanders overwhelmingly won the Vermont primary, earning 86.1 percent of the vote and winning every town. Clinton failed to meet the threshold to win any of the state's 14 pledged delegates.
Dean tangled with people via Twitter earlier this week over the issue, pointing to Clinton's greater vote tally nationwide and saying he had to do what he thought best.

(145,184 posts)The concept that Sanders will be able to flip any super delegates is actually rather amusing. Sanders does not care about the party or down ballot candidates and so he will be unable to appeal to super delegates or pledged delegates. It will be amusing to see him try

(9,086 posts)If he did reach 2026 pledged delegates, that would be half. From there he would only need about 100 supers to switch sides.
The hardest part would be reaching that 2026 number.

(145,184 posts)Good news. Predictwise has Sanders up to a 5% chance of being the nominee compared to a 4% http://predictwise.com/politics/2016-president-democratic-nomination The free market system is not expressing a great deal of faith in Sanders' chances

(2,145 posts)I just posted about a confusing and ridiculous cliquish adolescent gossipy conversation between maddow and hayes. What gives with this idiot cable station. Not sure why I'm even surprised given I stopped watching Maddow precisley due to the gossipy nature of her reporting. Only returned to hear Bernie. But I guess anything to distract people from the smart, adult answers he gave to her questions. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE.

(14,177 posts)I mean some of them made up their minds before Bernie even announces. I just don't see why Bernie even deserves to run it's obvious he is just getting in the way of the will of the people.

(3,040 posts)I have this friend named Pot. I think you guys will be great friends, you have a lot in common. To be honest, this whole super delegate system should be done away with or, at least, cut down in numbers. Their whole purpose is to ensure that the party doesn't have to be stuck with a candidate in the GE that they don't approve. To me, the DNC is saying that they know better than the rank and file that chose a candidate.
