Bernie Sanders has now won in New Hampshire, Vermont, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, after defeating Clinton on Super Saturday. Sanders swept the caucuses in Kansas and Nebraska, while Clinton won Louisiana's primary. As the Democratic race tightens, Sanders continues to demonstrate an advantage over Clinton when it comes to caucuses, in which passion plays such a vital role.

(3,977 posts)total delegates and Target Delegates. (from 538)
"Now you might be saying, but didnt we expect Sanders to do poorly in Louisiana? Yes, thats true. But according to our delegate targets, which takes that into account, Sanders is now 3 delegates further behind the pace he needs to win a majority of pledged delegate than he was at the beginning of the day. Considering he was already running 82 delegates behind his delegate goals, he needs to be exceeding his delegate targets.
Overall, it was actually a bad day for Sanders by the math, even with his two wins."

(18,402 posts)In the 2012 elections, NE went for Romney 61% to Obama's 38% ; in Kansas, it was Romney 60%, Obama 38%. That's way redder than either South Carolina (55% to 44%) or Louisiana (58% to 41%)!
According to the majority of posts on this page a week or two ago, red states don't even count. And these states are even redder. He's gonna lose the general election!
Just a little back at ya!

(57,936 posts)Amazing.
The more likely liberal states, Colorado New Hampshire, Vermont, Mass., that have voted thus far have gone more for Bernie than for Hillary. But it is utterly amazing how the primary process is front-loaded with very conservative states, the Southern states, Kansas, Nebraska (hasn't voted for a Democrat in a presidential election since 1964), Oklahoma, etc.
Hillary fans are finding a lot of hope in the fact that so many Southern states have voted for her, but the big, liberal states have not yet voted: Oregon, Washington, California, New York, and many, many more.

(57,936 posts)It strikes me as very strange how the primaries are front-loaded with conservative states. I never cared about this before.
It is not an accident, I suspect.
Bernie has done well in the slightly liberal states. We shall see what happens when the primaries are held in truly liberal states.

(57,936 posts)It is amazing that Bernie has done as well as he has in conservative mid-west states like Kansas and Nebraska. Amazing.

(10,721 posts)No matter who you support, it doesn't do any good to deny reality. The fact is Clinton gained ground and Sanders lost ground on Saturday. That's just math; it's undeniable.

But he slipped even further behind in the delegate and popular vote counts. Mixed blessings.
