Obviously there is a lot happening in your own districts and nationwide with the upcoming elections. We need a bit of help here in VAs 7th to help Wayne Powell DEFEAT Cantor.
Specifically, were asking for help getting the DCCC involved in this campaign. Its time to put some serious pressure on the DCCC to formally endorse Powell. Even if they dont give him actual cash, we think Powell should be on their red to Blue list, which will enable us to get a LOT more media attention and raise much more cash on our own.
Please help us contact the DCCC. Flood their lines and FORCE them to pay attention to Powell and Democratic values! Here is some direct contact info.

Representative Donna Edwards will chair the DCCCs successful Red to Blue Program, in addition to her duties on the recruiting committee. Edwards served on the 2010 recruiting committees (2010) and has worked with Democratic Members and candidates on their progressive outreach and fundraising plans.

Additionally, if you would like to contribute to the campaign directly, we have had a special link set up just for DU. 100% of your contribution goes to Powells campaign and using this link gives DU the credit. If you send a check via snail mail, just add DU to the memo.

I know times are tough; you have work, dinner, the kids, bills, the lawn, football, etc, etc, etc. I do too. If you can take just 5 minutes out of that very busy life to help us DEFEAT CANTOR you, your family, your friends, and everyone else you know will be better off November 7th.
Even if you dont have the time, but youve gotten this far please kick the thread so someone else that has time can see it later. Thanks so much for your valuable time.

(94,571 posts)DCCC helps candidates who help themselves, i.e., are raising the funds to be competitive and are showing strength in their district. Unfortunately Wayne Powell isn't.
There are currently 89 competitive races, including several races against Tea Party Boogeymen like Bachmann, West and King (all of which, by the way, I'm supporting). This race however, continues to be rates by every group I can find as "SOLID REPUBLICAN". It's not his fault, because the Republicans in Virginia gerrymandered Cantor's district, but Powell has shown no sign of closing the gap. Jim Graves, by comparison, has moved his race against Bachmann from a Solid Republican district to a 2-point difference in polling.
Even if this race was competitive, DCCC doesn't have the financial resources to support every candidate, so they give increasing amount of support based on the own candidate's ability to hit minimum fundraising thresholds. Taker a look at Powell's FEC filings and you'll see that his funding has been anemic.
This is a great race to provide volunteer support to, but as we start to see the House coming into play, they limited financial resources we all have should gravitate to the races we can win.

(8,434 posts)Why do you continue to come here and fight for Cantor? I just do not get it.
Are you happy with his works?
Come on down to district 7 and get your feet wet. This IS a competitive race!
"Even if they dont give him actual cash, we think Powell should be on their red to Blue list, which will enable us to get a LOT more media attention and raise much more cash on our own."
That's right in the thread. You completely ignore it to peddle your desire to keep Cantor in office.

(94,571 posts)You may be aware of the medical concept of Triage...
You help those that need and can make use of the help that's available.
You don't help those that don't need it, and you don't help those where it won't matter.
In this case, I am speak strickly on financial terms. If you have the time and opportunity to volunteer for Wayne, good for you. But if you only have financial resources, you need to ask whether the money will help, and whether it would help more somewhere else.
By the way, how much have you given to Jim Graves, Christie Vilsack, and Patrick Murphy? I'd hate to think you were trying to keep their Tea Party opponents in office...
(nb - I know how we both feel about this argument - I entered it again only to avoid a "Blame the DCCC" commentary)

Comparing my failure to donate to those campaigns with your outright attacks on what we are trying to do here is insane.
If you would have actually read the thread I'm asking first for phone calls. No money needed. I'm not even asking for money from the DCCC, simple recognition would help our cause.
You come here to shit all over our effort. I don't even understand why you're on DU let alone why you seek out our threads to discourage others from helping us.

I'd love to see Cantor booted out on his arse but I was just curious how this all worked. I would do the same thing as the DCC with respect to giving money. Since I have only a little I can give atm, I'd try to put it where it's close enough that there might be a difference made. I support all of our guys in spirit though and I only vote D

(130,905 posts)There are undoubtedly ways DCCC can show 'support' without spending very large amounts of money, which 'support' could be shown, among other ways, by NOT DISCOURAGING Democrats from contributing where they see fit (as you have done here, re: Wayne Powell.)
Its pretty clear you are ignorant, stating that Wayne Powell isn't 'raising funds to be competitive and showing strength.' Too bad you appear to be speaking for DCCC.

(94,571 posts)Raised through the cycle:
Cantor: $6,305,149
Powell: $259,539
Cash on Hand:
Cantor: $2,103,869
Powell: $145,896 (less $104,149 debt)
If the 3rd quarter filings show any narrowing of that gap, I'll be happy to acknowledge it
elleng
(130,905 posts)but we're not here to make you 'happy.'
We all KNOW cantor and others similarly situated have million+$ warchests. If we accepted that as the measure of whether or not we SHOULD support a candidate, that would that leave us exactly nowhere. We SEEK to improve over the current situation, we do NOT seek to remain where we are.

(94,571 posts)I give enough money to candidates that I can actually get them to take my call and discuss the current situation. They talked to me about where they were seeing progress, and unfortunately VA-7 isn't one of them (most are in California and Illinois). Meanwhile, in MN-7, Jim Graves has moved to within two points of Michelle Bachmann, and the race has been upgraded to LEAN DEMOCRATIC.
Let's be clear: Wayne Powell is a nice guy and I'm not disparaging his campaign. I'm only saying that GIVEN A LIMITED CHOICE (My wife and I have contributed upwards of $180,000 to the Democratic Party and its candidates for this election: the FEC won't let us contribute more), and with only 30 days left, financial contributions to Powell aren't going to be as effective as contributions to a more competitive race.

(130,905 posts)not surprising but somewhat confusing, apparently, if one is not in the 'in' crowd (unfortunately.) There are surely ways to get their attention, and get their 'help' in some ways. I've just spoken with Donna Edwards' office, and she will receive my message.
