When Romney is talking about the 47% of the population that he cannot get a single vote for he is laying out the reason why he is going to lose the election, and its not his fault.

Trust me this is simple standard CEO-in-denial talk.

When a company gets wiped out this is exactly how they express it, absolute structural unfairness.

You can hear the CEO of Blockbuster "47% of all of the movies are now being downloaded over the internet. No one could compete with that."

You can hear the CEO of Borders "47% of the market share moved to Amazon and without that there was room for only one national chain and there was no way that we could compete with Barnes and Noble with their big capital advantage".

So when Romney talks to his 'board of directors' (so to speak) that he is in a game where he has no chance of getting 47% of the vote he is basically laying the foundation for 'yes I lost in a landslide but it wasn't my fault, 47% of the people would never vote for me".

And now what do we see? The Romney campaign is in a cash flow crises and borrowed $ 20 million. Romney is spending his time raising money and as little as possible in front of people. He knows that he is going to lose and wants to make sure that when the votes are counted that he will not have any exposure on retiring that debt. He knows that its a lot easier to raise money now than after the election when he would be faced with writing personal checks.

5. Romney mentioned the 47% as part of his talk about swing voters

He seemed to be saying that if you don't pay federal taxes then a tax cut has no appeal.

He strongly cut into his own base because some on the Right heard the 47% remark as saying that 'everyone should be paying (more) taxes' so that cuts against the whole RW low taxes, small government thing.

I agree with you that Romney behaves very much in the corporate CEO mode of CYA but I still think at this point Romney is inside the bubble of his own bullshit and thinks he has run his campaign well and therefore will or could win.
