Ver-r-r-y interesting

I live here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warm_Springs_Natural_Area

It's part of a small rural valley about 50 miles outside of Las Vegas. It runs about 22 miles from one end to the other, and I live at one end. The population is around 6000, very conservative and LDS. They just about worshiped Junior.

Just had to run to the supermarket at the other end of the valley. I took the main road in, but decided to follow the longer, back roads on the way out of town. Either way, in or out, I did not see any Romney/Ryan signs. I didn't drive up and down all the streets, but I'm telling you, nothing! I did see one anti-Obama sign ("de-installing Obama"...seriously, that's what it said), and that was it. Lots of other political stuff, but no Romney. This guy's name should be everywhere in this valley.

If there's no lawn signs around here this close to the election, he's in serious trouble.

Only 2 folks have put up Romney signs in our neighborhood, but it's early. One person posted to the homeowner's forum asking about where the Dem HQ is in our suburb so I gave her directions to go to the OFA headquarters in Houston (we're in a suburb south of Houston). We're in a red area - so to see interest in Obama is unexpectedly exciting. I would give just about anything to see Romney lose Texas. That would be totally hilarious.

Except for a few inerrant lawn signs and few bumper stickers I see very little here in CT. Virtually no TV ads.

Fine with me.

You know, the difference between being inundated with yard signs and bumper stickers and being inundated with political ads is that individual people make the decision to get the yard sign and/or the bumper sticker while the political $$$ men produce the ads. I have not seen one yard sign or bumper for Romney up here.

In a community described as "LDS", do they need signs?

Also, it might be that people in such a community would not like the media to come and photograph wall to wall signs and bill it as an enclave of Mormons. That might scare some voters off.

I have actually seen more Obama signs than Romney signs in my neighbourhood. But we all know who most are voting for. My 7 year old was told by some of her class mates that, "Obama is in Arizona killing babies." So, the political bent is firmly planted in this town anyway, signs or not.
