Bernie Sanders Gets Group Endorsements When Members Decide; Hillary Clinton When Leaders Decide

In the war for endorsements in the Democratic presidential primary, there is a clear trend.

Every major union or progressive organization that let its members have a vote endorsed Bernie Sanders.

Meanwhile, all of Hillary Clinton’s major group endorsements come from organizations where the leaders decide. And several of those endorsements were accompanied by criticisms from members about the lack of a democratic process.

It’s perhaps the clearest example yet of Clinton’s powerful appeal to the Democratic Party’s elite, even as support for Sanders explodes among the rank and file.

but Hillarians are too tone-deaf apparently to 'get it'.

Sad that.

and I'm glad he finally wrote something up about it. He's a great reporter.

As for the content, this can't come as a shock. Even when organizations have given Bernie higher lifetime ratings than Hillary (for instance, League of Conservation Voters), their leaders still decide to endorse Hillary. It's disappointing, but a good illustration of why everything in politics is so broken, and goes a long way to proving Bernie's case: the system is rigged.

I think we all have been on the same page regarding this issue. I'm glad those with a louder voice are now broadcasting it.

I think we have been seeing this for awhile now. Many of the 'establishment' organizations that have calcified in Washington decline to ask their members who to endorse, and just pick for themselves. However, many of the actual organizations with people and grass roots movements are also the ones that decided to poll their members.
