news to share..
My Friend and Fellow DU member "Me" has passed away.
I can't believe I have to write these words.. I'm still in shock. She was an Outstanding, Compassionate Democrat.. And a Kind and Supportive Friend for Many Years on DU.
I never met her in person.. she lived in Manhattan but we sent Birthday and Christmas cards to each other and she'd be there with Compassion and Empathy whenever I needed her. And, I was there for her.
I will miss Her more than I can say. Hug your Friends and Loved ones.

ETA~ So Sorry I had left the "r" out of FRIENDS! AS in Hug Them!

(176,238 posts)My deepest condolences to you, Me's family and friends. Had she been sick a long time? I saw that her last post was more than a month ago.
Cha
(300,938 posts)I PM her on June 25the because I hadn't seen her around for awhile and she replied that she was in the hospital for about 10 days. They didn't know what was caused it.. here I'll post Me's words..
I sent her a Get Well card and she responded to that.. a few more PMs and then I never heard from her again on DU or anywhere.
So I sent another card to her home and told her I was really worried but never heard back. I was still hoping for the best.
And then I got a beautiful cared from her husband on August 23 that said our "Me" had passed.

Cha
(300,938 posts)days and home again "weak".
These are Me's words in her first PM to me after I contacted her 'cause I hadn't seen her around..
To make a short response, I've been in the hospital for the last 10 days because of a chest xray that showed water on the lung hampering my ability to breathe. So i've been through 10 of tests whiled they stabilized my ability to breathe. They don't actually know what the problem is now even thought it might be liver. THey will have more results in 2 weeks and that might provide clues as to the origin of the illness. So, I'm home, weak but better than I was. I will say, it has been some king of experience but along the way, we've been treated with the most amazing expertise, kindness and generosity. I'm coming out of this part of the illness with an enitirly different head in some says. In an odd way, I'm not sorry. I'll be in touch but that's the story so far.
💛🌻
The last I heard they still didn't know why she was so ill.. thee are Me's hearts she posted in a PM..

All that we love deeply becomes a part of us. All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming. When it seems that our sorrow is too great to be borne, let us think of the great family of the heavy-hearted into which our grief has given us entrance.

You know my beliefs, though. I'm sure she's young and healthy again on the other side, reunited with her loved ones who are already there.
I knew I'd seen her post in Music Appreciation, and I just skimmed her messages there and found she loved Al Green. When Glamrock started a thread about Green's best songs five years ago -

DU lost one of us, you lost more than just someone.
Its not easy, there is no consolation, only words and memories. May they last!
Cha

I will never forget when the people in the DU Hillary group were basically the only people I could turn to sometimes. Online friends mean a lot.

(4,637 posts)I have lost online friends, too, and know that the loss is just as real and painful as people you can touch. We are all still REAL people. And it hurts to lose a friend, regardless of the circumstances of the friendship. My heart is with you.

(23,611 posts)Isnt it amazing how much someone that youve never met in person can mean to you? That we can be good friends with a person weve never sat next to? I know exactly what youre talking about. Its proof that love transcends all.
Im so sorry to hear Me is gone. May her crossing be gentle.
😔
Cha
(300,938 posts)think about that all the time. It's DU..a lot of us have been on here for a long time with so many kindred spirits.. And, fortunate enough to form lasting friendships.
I think Me's crossing was gentle.. she told me early on about it that she wasn't afraid to die and she had told her family and friends that, too.
That was before I knew how serious it was and didn't think that it would happen for a long time.

(11,134 posts)I'm so sorry. I hadn't seen Me's posts in a while but thought nothing of it. Life gets busy for us all or gets in the way.
What terrible news for you. And for the group at large.
Cha
(300,938 posts)news for all.. I happened to be the one who PM & asked how she was because I hadn't seen her around.
I never expected such serious news that she had been in the hospital because there had been water on her lungs from an Xray.
That was June 25th.. & then we Pm a few times.. and I never heard from her again after my July 30th PM. So I sent another card to her home in Manhattan.. still nothing until her husband sent me a card that I got on August 23rd that she had Passed last Thursday.. It was so heart crushing and shocking.
How's your Granddaughter, Cassandra?
💛💜💚💙💖
peggysue2
(11,134 posts)And how unexpected. It must have been shocking for you. Thank goodness her husband managed to reach out.
As for Cassandra? She's finally on the donor's list after a lot of foot dragging from the insurance company. Their first response was a denial. Once again my daughter-in-law worked the phones demanding a peer-to-peer conference and had the denial turned around. It meant another two-week delay for a situation where time is of the essence. Honestly, I will never understand our screwed-up health system that allows insurance companies to play doctor in life or death situations.
As for Cassandra? She's her smiley-face self, has rebounded from the last round of chemo and is actually coming home while we await a call from the transplant surgeons.
Fingers crossed!
Take care of yourself, girlfriend.
Cha
(300,938 posts)In Me's husband's note he said Mary especially wanted me to get in touch with you to let you know.💕🤷?♀️ She knew.
That's encouraging news about your DIL getting things turned around with the insurance company.. A Miracle!
And, Cassandra being able to be at home while you all wait for the Call.
So gratefl for these important steps🤷?♀️! 💕🤞💕🤞

(11,134 posts)Guess we'll be the crying duet. Aghhhhh. I hate when these things happen. I'm just not good at final endings. But you know, I do hope when my own time comes I have the presence of mind and enough time to reach out to those I've known, cared about and/or respected; there's something about closing the circle as best we can.
As for my DIL, she is the Warrior Advocate for this child. In fact, when I was telling a good friend about the problems, mishaps and general chaos Laura had handled, she said,"You know what? If something happens to me this is who I want going to bat in my behalf. Can I get my name on a list?"
LOL
Pretty impressive though.
Take care, Cha. Thanks for the note, too.

(11,134 posts)I have a glide path to the Pearly Gates. LOL.
Saying that, I agree btw--crying, weeping, even shrieking is a mega release. Keeping all those emotions bottled up can kill you. It's also my daughter-in-law's secret power: strong during the day, a couple glasses of wine and tears in the evening.
Keeps the world in balance!
