Where's the snow? We're on pace to obliterate record for warmest December By Scott Sistek KOMOnews Meteorologist Seattle WA Dec 15, 2014

At the start of the month,
I blogged about how Seattle needed essentially just a normal December by temperature to set the record for warmest year on record by overall average temperature.
Now that we've reached the halfway point, it's not only looking like the annual record is going down, but perhaps the all-time monthly record too! And all you have to do is glance at the mountains to see it's taking a toll on the snowpack.
Let's start with Seattle, which as of Dec. 15 sits at an average high temperature of 53.3 degrees -- an eye-popping 7.9 degrees above average!!! What's more? It's 3.5 degrees above our record warmest December, which currently stands at 49.8 degrees in 1976. That includes the cold snap that began the month when Seattle had highs of 40 and 42 and lows of 26 on Dec. 1 and 2.
Then, the heat was on. Dec 5 hit 55, and then a 5-day stretch of 58, 58, 61, 66 (all time December high record) and 58. We haven't been below 50 for a high since Dec. 4.
If this keeps up -- and the next two weeks look generally warmer than average -- we'll not only easily set the record for warmest overall year by both average overall and low temperature but the average high temperature record -- which seemed out of reach at the start of the month -- is in play now.
