Winter storm to impact mid-Missouri on Saturday January 1, 2022.

NEW BLOOMFIELD — ***Stay tuned for more updates in the next 24 hours***

Winter storm watches were placed for most of mid-Missouri early Thursday in advance of the system set to kick off the year 2022 on Saturday. This storm is going to impact us with a mixed bag of precipitation.

Temperatures are going to warm to near 60 Friday afternoon and stay warm just before the ball drops on New Year's Eve. This storm will move over land later Thursday. Some small tweaks to this forecast are possible as this storm moves onto land.

Mid-Missouri is going to be a part of the "transition zone", which is why we are expecting a mixed bag of precipitation. Rain looks to start south of Highway 50 after midnight, while colder air begins to move into the winter storm watch area. The cut-off of air warm enough to support just rain, and air to support sleet/freezing rain/snow, is going to be sharp. This makes the overall forecast hard to pinpoint. Take a look at the futurecast photos and the sharp cut-off in precipitation type in mid-Missouri. Any small shift in the track of this system, north or south, will make a big difference in what precipitation you see in your area.
